Question about Sony KDS-R50XBR1 50" HDTV

1 Answer

Sony Grand Wega 50" LCD

I have a Sony Grand Wega 50" LCD rear projection HDTV that is about 3 years old. Have had no problems until now. About two weeks ago a small blue "blob" started to appear in the lower left hand corner of the screen. It has gotten bigger and smaller at times but is now about the size and shape of a football. Hasn't gotten any worse in a week or so. Any thoughts onwhat this is and how to fix it? I've heard it may be the light engine going out?

Contact Sony. Evidently they have had numerous complaints regarding the situation you described. On the model that I own, Sony is going to reimburse me for parts and labor. It is called an optical block repair.

Lots of small blue dots

The Optical Block is the most likely cause. It has been known for this problem. The cost of the Optical block in this model series is approx. 600.00 or so.
I am not sure if Sony will deal with a Consumer on a one on one basis for this part because of the cost of the part. You can check with Sony at 1800-222-SONY.
I hope this helps,

Pink and Blue Spots

Sony guarantee the consumer to replace the optical block assembly for thousands of dollars in parts and labor every four years or when the pink and blue spots appear every time. Then replace the optical block assembly again and again every time the spots appear.
