My sony dsc-s980 keeps telling me to turn off and on the power. There was a problem with the barrell getting stuck but its seems to be working ok now but my camera still wont work

Error: TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN is displayed on the LCD screen of the DSCS980 Camera when the Lens Mechanism is stuck or affected by any malfunction. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset and Initialize option.

Performing a manual power reset

Turn off the camera.

Remove the battery pack.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.

Reinsert the battery pack.

Turn on the camera.

To reset the Camera back to factory default, select the INITIALIZE Option from the Main Settings 1 Menu of the Camera to OK.This will set the user defined settings back to factory default. The images and videos will not get deleted.

If the issue persists, service may be required.

Good Luck

My camera won't let me take pictures

Does it have a memory card? Try taking that out once ;) If that doesn't work - Come back and we'll try something else!

Lens Error, Restart

What you are seeing is a generic stuck lens error message, turning off the camera and turning it on again will not fix the lens unfortunately.

Your lens needs to be cleaned or repaired, and if it cant be repaired it needs to be replaced. There are online places that will do it for a decent price and there are others that overcharge by way too much.

Fixya rules prevent me from giving you a link to anything off Fixya that would help you fix your camera.

Good luck from....

I can't take pictures....

This error message TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN is a common error message for digital cameras that has a zoom lens. One possible cause for this is that the battery may had drained out and the lens is still extended. There would be different that steps you could perform and make sure you have fresh or fully charged batteries when performing these steps.

First of course try to do what the error states.

If will not work, set the unit in PLAY mode before turning it ON or immediately right after you press the power. If it successfully gets through the PLAY mode, initialize the settings and restart th camera. You could initialize it by going to the menu and then setup.

If still will not work, turn it off and also remove the battery and allow it to have no power at all for a minute.

If all the steps above will still not work. your camera would require service and try calling its manufacturer to setup a repair on it.

Wont turn on

I have a similar problem where it wont turn on. I have found that if I eject the memory card, power on, then insert the memory card, I am able to power it on everytime.
