Washer spins but the clothes come out to wet. It is a maytag top loader. We had a appliance mech. to come out and he said it needed a new belt. He replaced the belt and it still does not wring the water out of the clothes. We have to spin them a second time and sometimes a third time.

probably needs a belt. pull the washer from the wall and tilt it back against the wall, make sure it is stable. then look under and find the belt and replaced from a local vendor.
f the washer doesn't reach its proper spin speed, the clothes may be too wet at the end of a cycle. Check to be sure the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again. If the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn or loose belt (Maytag), a worn clutch (GE/Hotpoint), or a worn motor pulley or tub bearing.
there two reasons for this in a TL washer stretched belts or a bad thrust bearing, and lastly check that the brakes are not worn and dragging in the spin, depending on the age of the wsher it may be economically worth investing in a new machine brake jobs or thrust bearing jobs by a tech can be upwards of 200+ dollars .
This sounds like a belt issue. A belt will become weak and stretch or glaze over time. Both of these conditions will cause a slow spin.
The belts are located on the bottom and are relatively easy to replace. Go to: www.repairclinic.com for info on removal and installation. You can even order a new belt from them.
