This could be several problems. You should first try to clean the laser head with a cleaning disc. If this does not work you can try resetting the dvd player to the factory settings. This function is found in the settings section under preferences. Use you remote control to open the settings menu and use the up and down arrows to highlight the preferences section. Press ok to enter the sub-menu. Use the up and down arrows to highlight the default setting.Press ok. You have now reset the dvd player to the factory settings. Press the menu button again to escape the menu. All this information is in the owners manual on page (47). Try a dvd to see if the dvd player is working properly. If not you may have other problems that will require you to open the dvd player up to find the problem. These problems could be a laser lens that is not functioning properly or a problem with the transport that is use to set the dvd up for reading by the laser lens. For these problems it is best to have a qualified technician to troubleshoot the problem. You can call phillips customer support at this telephone number 1-800-744-5477. Tell them the model number of your dvd player and the problem you are having with disc player not reading discs. They will be able to help you get service for the dvd player.I hope this information helps you with your problem.
