Re: magnavox hdtv

The Magnavox 27MS343S is a standard analog 27" TV. It is not high definition and therefore cannot generate a posterized or pixelated picture. I will bet you are using a digital cable box or satellite reveiver and the problem is in that box, not the TV. Hook up a regular VCR to the TV, set the TV to channel 3, put in a good pre-recorded tape and hit PLAY. If the tape plays nice and clear on the TV, the problem is in your digital box.

I have a magnavox sdtv tuner can I hook cable line that still has cable come threw the box

Yes. You may enter through the RF connections. Be sure your TV is on channel three or sometimes channel four. You must be in the same channel on the cable box. You will receive all channels the box is capable of receiving. If your TV has RCA connections in the back and the cable box also has RCA can opt for an input in the TV. Inputs can generally give you a better picture and sound. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support.

You`re probably getting a on air channel which means that you have to check your cable connectors and splitter if you got any, switch with other sets if you can.

The whole picture does not show on the screen; faces on the edge are cut off

It's one or two problems. It depends on if you're using a cable box. First try to see if your aspect ratio is on full using the JVC remote. Just Press the Aspect button. Then if it's on full and this doesn't correct the problem it may be your cable box. If it's time Warner go into the settings by pressing the settings button on the remote twice I believe tehn go to display and select the select and check each option picture size (change to normal if you have a 4:3 t.v. or stretch if you have a 16:9 (wide screen T.V.) Then go to aspect ratio and select again eih 4:3 or 16:9. If your have a hdtv cable box select output resolution and make sure there is a bulllet next to each setting for 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i. Then exit out of the cable settings and your picture should be ok. Now if you have the hdtv package keep in mind it is normal to have the black side bars on each side of the picture only if your watching one ofthe high definition channel network that is not actual being broadcast in hdtv or recorded in hdtv.

Magnavox, channel buttons cycle through sources

You need to reprogram your TV if you do not have a cable box or satellite box, otherwise those are going to be the only channels that the unit will pick up. If you do have a cable box or satellite box, just hit 0-3 or 0-4 if you are using a coaxial wire. If no box is present, you can just go into the menu and hit autoprogram - select cable for direct cable from wall, and antenna for antenna. Note: this particular TV is going to need a box in another 5 weeks due to the DTV transition, so my solution will only carry you for another few weeks.

MAGNAVOX mODEL 27ms3404/17 shuts down after after a few seconds. Mine does the same thing! My TV tube turns black after sew seconds. The green light stays on saying that the power is on. If you change...

first place to start on this chasss is with a known failure in the horizontal circuit. there is a capacitor 2455 and 2 transistors locations 7461 and 7463 that have caused a wide variety of failures. i would recommend replacing these components before proceeding as they could be the whole of the problem.

Will not Turn On

It is a problem on the main board and could be the regulator IC or Horizontal output transistor.
Regulater IC should be a STR53041
The HOT is marked on the front
Be sure to check the 100mfd @50v cap next to reg IC
and the transistor on the left N4923

Philips Magnavox 32"

Sounds like the PLL IC or the tuner maybe going bad??. You didnt say that by NO picture NO sound, is there any light on the screen at all?? You said when you change channels it comes back alive for a bit.? This is the indication that its a tuner or related circuit problem . Now first off +these sets do not have any user serviceable parts inside them as they are all solid state and soldered in and then you also have to deal with the HI Voltage saftey issues. This is not a reapir You should attempt to do on your own as a pro should assist you in this repair. Good Luck
