I have a 1988 Honda xr600 and my throtal cable broke. Now i have ordered new cables and the one end is bigger than the other. Am i able to switch them end for end or do i have to get a new cable?
You have to get the correct cable to replace the one broke,as the inner to outer cable lengths differ on the puul to return,as far as which way round to fit them, the smaller nipples go to the thottle twist grip.

Remove the handle assembly by removing screws and sliding off. Remove nozzle housing cover and unscrew fastener at end of cable. Pull cable from handle end out of cable sheath. Slide new cable into sheath and fasten at bottom as it was before. You will need to adjust the cable to the proper location so the transmission works properly in both directions.
Usually the cable breaks at the very end where the barrel is attached. if so there are cable repair barrels sold at bicycle shops that you can insert the broken cable end into and tighten a small set screw in the side to clamp down on the cable. I've had to drill the hole a little bigger for some larger cables. Picture reference: http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTWl_KhEmoSJ8pfIqp0Dnj-_7EUayYvprBbJQF_aHC3NwBEhR2B
Fairly easy to repair, Obviously the cable is broken. Just follow it back. it runs through the firewall from the pedal to the throttle body. if you have cruise control it may go there (I don't remember and am too lazy to go look at mine) Either way, get a new cable and put it in!!!
remove cable from transmission, follow cable behind engine, along exhaust pipe, then up through floor into center console.along the way you will find retainer clips (on both ends of cable) which hold the cables in place, and also underneath you will find a fastner which holds cable to bottom of floorboards and a panel with a rubber gasket in which the cable goes up into the console through. you must then remove center console to release the other end of cable.Once cable is loose go under car in the middle of the cable and pull out from floor then pull the other end out from engine compartment.
If you remove the old cable, is it the same as the new one?
