I have a pair of OCEANA 7X50 waterproof binos that I purchased new from CELESTRON about 5 years ago that now have two major problems. 1) the outer coating is coming off. It is sticky and gross. 2) the lenses are completely covered in small black spots, as if the coating is separating from the glass. Neither of these problems were caused by solvents, cleaners, or abuse. I would like to send them in to have them inspected and repaired, please.

The coating is coming off the lens-- not worth repairing. Buy a new pair of binoculars and in the future only use "lens cleaning sheets" to clean the lenses. Zeiss is a good brand available at Wal Mart or any eyeglass retailer.

I have a pair of Eddie Bauer waterproof binoculars ( 23238) 7x50. Can you tell me what battery they take, and where I can get more info about this model?

390 battery, 2 of them. I just replaced mine. Also look out for the compass glue drying out and letting the compass appear off center. I used gel super glue to recenter and fasten down.

I have a Celestron 7by50 waterproof binoculars that I droped. Now when I look trough them I see 2 pics. at differant hights also they sound like the prism is loose.I have had this on cheeper binoculars and...

Your binoculars either have a bent or broken yoke assembly (the bit which carries the eyepieces) or one or more prisms have came unseated. Your description firmly suggests the latter.

The first repair involves replacing the entire yoke assembly: the part is expensive in comparison to the retail cost of a new pair of binoculars and with labour charges on top is not usually a cost-effective repair except on really high end models at prices far higher than yours (which can be replaced for around GBP£200).

The second repair is straightforward and fairly quick for anyone with the right collimation equipment, but the screw(s) need to be secured with thread-locking liquid afterwards.

Your binoculars have far higher repair costs than usual as they are waterproofed so need to be serviced by the correct specialists who know how to replace the seals and who are able to recharge the nitrogen filling if disassembly becomes necessary. As the prism seems to be loose it's unlikely to be a mere matter of adjustment.

Either way, you really need to get a Celestron servicing agent to diagnose the fault and provide you with an estimate, or you can go ahead and see what's wrong yourself (they're broken anyway!) and see whether you can repair things sufficiently that they just need re-collimation and gas filling, a far cheaper repair. If the seals look good, then wipe them with a thin smear of silicone grease upon re-assembly (sold as o-ring lube at any plumbing shop)

I hope you manage to use this information to fix your binoculars or at least that it assists you to choose your next course of action. Please take a moment to rate the free answer I have provided for you and any testimonial which you might wish to add is always welcome!

I have a CPC11GPS telescope that was working the last time I used it, which was 6 months ago. It is in NEW NEW condition. I pulled it out last night, turned it on, allowed the system to align itself using...

The clutch is not engaging in RA. Maybe the gears are not actually meshing together? A loose worm gear?

You can open it up and look and see if anything obvious is loose. Otherwise it's a trip back to Celestron.

I have double vision with binoculars. When I look at jupiter for example, I see 2 as if the optics are not aligned.

Your question is listed under "Zhumell Oberwerk 45 25x100 Astronomy binoculars". If these are what you have then they're an extremely high end expensive specialist item and will need professional realignment. I'm assuming that if you do own a pair of these then you're knowledgeable enough to have done all you can to adjust them correctly.

I suspect that you have a regular pair of 10x50 or similar binoculars, with a centre focus wheel and hinges. If this is the case then try to wiggle one of the eyepieces back and forth: if you can easily move it and the other eyepiece remains steady then you have a broken hinge. This is a very common fault especially if your binos have been dropped or if they've been stored in their case upside down (i.e.standing on the eyepieces).

A broken hinge is normally a write-off as there is rarely sufficient area to us epoxy glue on and the metal used is not usually suited to being brazed. Even when the hinge can be repaired it's normally permanently misaligned.

Either resign yourself to using one half of your binoculars or buy a new pair. In the UK LIDL regularly sell a pair of Meade 10x50 binos of excellent quality for just over £10 and that's only a little more than a bottle of epoxy resin glue costs. You may be interested to know that one of the world's most successful supernova spotters does so in his back garden in the UK using just half a pair of old 7x50 binos.

Dropped new Celestron Skymaster 15x70 binoculars. Nothing appears broken, but now have two images. Can I repair this. and how? Thanks. Dan

Don't "unscrew" the binoculars. there are no user servicable parts inside. the collimnation adj screws are beneath the rubber boot just under where your index fingers rest when looking through the bino's. use a jewelers screwdriver to tease the boot up and stick a small nut or something in. then put the binos on a stable surface and play with the screws a bit while watching the images. you can get them pretty close this way.

Hi the ir is not working on my bushnell 26-0400,is there any way you can help (repair ?)

I had the same model, same problem. Bushnell replaced mine under warranty, If they needed to send it for repair it had to go to Russia. I guess it was cheaper to give me a new one. If its not under warranty Bushnell will send it off for you but it will cost quite a bit. My new pair lasted about 2 years with a lot of usage. Gen 1 night vision tubes do not have a very long life span. You may be better served buying a new pair of night vision binos.

I would like to know how to dis-assemble an old Swift Vega Binoculars. It is a Nighthawk 7X50, model #788. The inside of the lens need to be cleaned and maybe the mirrors, but I am not sure how to take it...

the old swift nighthawk is a nice bino, has lasted all these years and is well worth repair ...the problem is if you do it yourself you will only make it worse as there will be more more dust inside than when you started unless you have an air hose to blow off optics after polishing, also once you disturb the optics you will certainly put it out of alignment. have repaired many of these thru the years, actually worked for swift in boston years ago. why mess it up ...larry 5088331232
