Connecting additional telephones

I have just purchased this fax machine and i have connected an additional phone to the EXT socket on the fax machine. When I receive any calls and answer with the connected phone it does not pick up the call, I have tried taking over the line by pressing ** on the connected phone, this does not work either. I have to then press Stop on the fax machine. Any Ideas?

Re: Connecting additional telephones

The only other way around is to fit a double adapter into the phone line socket and plug fax in one and the phone in other, this way both will ring and allow you to make or receive calls on the seperate handset

Can i connect a phone to another room to the machine , if so which one do i plug the phone into and which one do i plug the one from the wall?.....there are two places to plug them says...

The "Line" jack is the one for the Telephone line over which you send the fax's.
There should also be a jack marked "ext tel" or possibly "ext phone"...this is the one into which you plug the telephone.

What does comm error 20 01 mean on my brother 2820 mean? how do I fix it?

This means that your Brother machine experienced a communications error when sending or receiving a FAX. This is generally caused by either interference on the line, phone line connection or another device on the line.
Try resending the documents and see if the message no longer appears.

If the message still appears, there may be a problem with the way the Brother machine is connected or you may have a bad telephone line. Disconnect any other equipment on the telephone line, i.e. answering machine, modem, extra telephones, switching devices, adapters, etc. Make sure the telephone line is connected directly from the jack (socket) on the Brother machine labeled "Line" to the telephone wall jack (socket).
Try resending again. If the transmission is successful, the problem was created by the connection of the Brother machine and the other devices on the line. Reconnect the other pieces of equipment one at a time to see which is causing the problem. If the error continues to appear on the report, try connecting the Brother machine to a different telephone line or have the line checked by the telephone company.

No dial tone on phone connected to ext port on epson dx9400f

Buy a double adapter so both cords go to the LINE port. Set your answering machine to 6 or 7 rings so the fax picks up first. Your fax machine will know the difference between voice and fax calls,

HP 7680 Fax paper will not go through

Have you checked that you can get a dial tone?
Can you recieve fax's?.
If no dial tone then check that you have the telephone cord plugged into the line jack on the back of the fax machine and not the tel or ext sockets.May be a telstra problem so plug another phone into the wall socket to see if you can dial out.
Also make sure that the fax is set to pulse dialing.

My Magic 5 Fax/phone machine is no longer recognising the cordless phone that came with it and while I can get the cordless handset into registration mode, the device (base station) will not register it...

See if your cordless phone will work when plugged directly into the wall jack.If it does then plug a regular phone into the faxes phone connector, EXT jack. See if you can make a call. If you can plug the cordless in again to the EXT jack on the fax machine. In order for the fax switch to function, the machine must
be first in the series if multiple devices are connected to the
same telephone socket. Follow the correct order

If you have multiple telephone sockets for the same
telephone line, the machine must be connected to
the first telephone socket.

If you still get the error I recommend a servicecall to the manufractorer

Must have DSL filter attached before fax, not sure how you are saying you have it setup, but phone line should come from wall then to filter then to fax socket marked line, phone should be hooked to socket on fax marked EXT, if you dont have dedicated fax line then fax number will be same as phone no.

If you have Adsl then there will be a lead from wall that splits into two, one goes to your modem (ADSL) and the other marke phone or line needs to go to fax socket marked LINE

sure u can: Installation with an answering machine and/or extension telephone: 1. Remove the seal covering the TEL. SET jack on the rear of the fax. Connect an extension telephone or answering machine to the TEL. SET jack. 2. If desired, connect an extension phone to the answering machine. from the user Fax guide: If desired, you can also connect an answering machine or an extension telephone to your fax. ¨ Connecting an answering machine to the fax will allow you to receive both voice and fax messages on the same line while you are out. For details on using this feature, see Chapter 7.
