Seized cylinder for up and down control

I just aquired a mac cummins 12 speed drill press and the cylinder that lets it go up and down is seized. The motor and everything else works but i cant get it to go up and down. I was wondering if there is a manual or guru that will assist me in finding the reason why it is seized and also how to fix it.

I have a couple of drill presses that have a quill lock which fixes it in place. I am not familiar with your machine, but this may be an issue.

It may be a large wing type nut on the shaft that the handle is on.

It is also possible that the quill is jammed. There is a small gear on the shaft that the handles rotate that fits on a rack type gear that moves the quill.
This could happen if the quill is all the way down and passed the gear.

It is also possible that this is jammed or has something stuck in it.

Does anyone know where I can get an owner's manual for an ironsmith 12 speed drill press. An who makes this particular item. Thanks.

Hello, Amanda -

I have not found the owner's manual online (free or pay) for the Ironsmith 12-speed drill press.

It seems that the Ironsmith trademark for machinery products was held by Tractor Supply Company. See:
https://www.trademarkia.com/ironsmith-machines-for-metal-74529542.html
However, it seems that trademark ownership has lapsed and that the Ironsmith machinery products are no longer made.

With luck, Tractor Supply Co. may hold a copy of the user's manual for the Ironsmith 12-speed drill press in the company archives and a copy (maybe a scanned PDF document) can be made for you. There may be a cost.

This is the link to the Tractor Supply Co. Contact Customer Solutions web page:

Best wishes.

How do you change the speed on a value craft 12 speed drill press

Most drill press' have cover on the top when opened expose two different sized pulleys. Speed is adjusted by changing to different combinations. The speed is usually shown inside the lid on a chart with the different combinations of pulleys. Hope this helps.

How to get my ignition lock out

Instructions

Test fit a drill bit in the lock cylinder. You want a bit that is just smaller than the cylinder. You will be using hardened drill bits to cut through the cylinder, since ordinary bits may be damaged by drilling metal.

Lock the drill bit into the drill chuck and tighten the chuck.

production in very fast delivery! special threading taps, plug gauge

Drill a starter groove into the lock cylinder. Start the drill on a low speed and create a groove in the end of the lock cylinder. You don't need to create a deep hole, just enough of a groove so that the drill bit will not slip on a higher speed.

Increase the drill speed to the highest setting and drill out the lock cylinder. Let the drill do the work. If you force the drill into the lock cylinder, you could burn out the rotor inside the drill motor

The bobbin spindal won't turn to put thread on the bobbin?

Either the winder rubber is worn down one side, or, the spindle has seized which is quite common because of the fast speed they wind in which case you need to put a few drops of WD40 on the spindle and let in rund down, get an ordinary electric drill and put it over the spindle and slowly start the drill to free it off.
