You cannot remove an administrator password for the initial windows set up you have to reinstall windows, but if you mean that you have not got administrative rights in the user set up you you will have to set up a new user, but again if you do and you still cannot get administrative rights you will have to reinstall windows.

What is the Windows XP Administrator Password?

Windows XP, the most popular versions of Windows, was widely installed by PC users. Do you remember after you installing your first copy of Windows XP, how long did it require you to realize that you didn't know the administrator password? I vaguely remembered that it was about a week before I needed to make some changes in the file system. It suddenly came to me to be logged on as an administrator, but I do not know the password of the administrator!

Luckily, Windows XP (both Home and Professional versions) have a "hidden" administrator account which is autogenerate when install. This account usually doesn't show up on the logon screen and most people are totally unaware of its existence. Usually it is ok because we didn't need to user this account very often, only when we don't know the administrator password, need access to the Windows XP recovery console or boot into Windows XP safe mode, the default Windows XP administrator password would come in handy.

What is the Default Administrator Password in Windows XP?

Knowing the default password of Windows XP administrator account would be very useful.

Try to leave the password blank. The password reset disk can only be used with the computer it was created on and it can also be reused to reset the account's password multiple times. However, you need to know the password of the account you want to create the reset disk for, and you must create the reset disk before you forget the administrator password
Here is how to reset XP administrator password with the XP password reset disk:

Insert the XP password reset disk to the computer

Click the Use your password reset disk item on the XP logon screen to start the Password Reset Wizard. If you have only one Admin account in Vista and have forgotten the password for the same and dont want to reinstall the operating system and land up loosing all your data, this tip is for you.

1) Restart the PC with the Vista Boot Disc.
2) Select Repair Your Computer option
3) Select the Command Prompt

Or - If you dont have a Vista Boot Disc then boot your PC to DOS using any Dos boot disk or other O/s disc.

4) goto "C:\"
5) Navigate to C:\Windows\System32 ( cd c:\windows\system32)
6) Now we will rename the utility manager to cmd.

Type the following commands,
- ren cmd.exe cmdold.exe
- ren utilman.exe cmd.exe
exit

7) we have renamed it successfully.
8) Restart the PC without the disc, reach the screen where you are asked for you password.
9) You will see a white blue icon on bottom left.
10) Click on the icon and CMD will open up, type the following command in CMD.
- net user administrator /active
exit
11) Restart the PC, and you will find you have one more administrator account
12) logon with the new account, goto user accounts and remove the password for your old account.
13) restart the PC with the Disc again, and goto the command prompt as we did in the step 1-3.
14) type the following command,
- cd c:\windows\system32
- ren cmd.exe utilman.exe
- ren cmdold.exe cmd.exe

15) restart the PC, and logon to your own account, open CMD by going from start menu.
16) type the following and restart the PC.
- net user administrator /active:no

17) restart the PC and now you only have one account and thats your own account.

Bought a used pc, do not have password for windows log-on. cannot get to bios, no boot up cd. what now?

Most XP machines have a built in administrator account that normally does not have a password.

You can try pressing F8 before Windows starts up to go into the XP bootup menu.

Choose Safe mode

Once into safe mode you should either see an 'Administrator' account listed, or just type in Administrator and do not type a password. If that works, go to Start-->Control Panel-->User Accounts. From there you can create a new user account for you to use with administrative privileges.

If that doesn't work, try downloading a password reset utility, such as the one at http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Hope this helps

How to remove the Administrator Password?

There are three methods to reset the Administrator passwords;

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}1stMethod:

The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we installWindows, it automatically creates an account “Administrator” and sets itspassword to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then trythis:

Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ++keys twice and it’ll show Classic Login box. Now type “Administrator” (withoutquotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and youshould be able to log in Windows.

Now you can reset your account password from “Control Panel -> UserAccounts“.

Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show thisin-built Administrator account in Login screen.

====================

2nd Method:

Windows XP and further versions also provide another method to recoverforgotten password by using “Reset Disk“. If you created a Password Reset Diskin past, you can use that disk to reset the password. To know more about it,please visit following links:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q306214

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q321305

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}====================

3rd Method:

If the above mentioned tricks doesnt work, then try following trick which isactually a loophole in Windows XP Setup and a big security hole:

A. Boot using Windows XP Setup CD and follow the instruction like AcceptingEULA, etc.

B. When it asks to repair your existing Windows installation, accept it andpress “R” to run the repair.

C. Setup will start repairing your Windows and will start copying files, etc.

D. After a few minutes setup will restart your system and when it restartsdon’t press any key when it shows “Press any key to continue…” otherwise Setupwill start from the beginning. Don’t press any key and setup will resume whereit left.

E. Now it’ll start doing other tasks and will show a small progressbar with afew details in left side.

F. Look carefully at the details and when it shows “Installing devices“, press+F10 keys in your keyboard.

G. It’ll open a Command Prompt window. Now type nusrmgr.cpl and press .

H. It’ll open the same “User Accounts” window which you see in Control Panel.

I. Now you can remove or reset any account password without any problem.

Enjoy......

Windows XP - Cannot access user name or adminstrator name to log in

Have You Lost Your Windows Admin Password?

Forgetting your Windows administrator login password. With no way to get into the system, you can’t even perform basic maintenance, let alone a thorough tune-up. Formatting is always an option, but we consider that a last resort. (Plus, guess who’s going to have to help reinstall all the programs lost after a wipe?) But all hope is not lost. There are a few ways to actually retrieve a lost Windows account password. Read on, and we’ll show you the light.

1st Method:
The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press <ctrl>+<alt>+<del> keys twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

2th Method:
There are a lot of Windows password revealers and crackers available, but we’ve found that Windows Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
Windows Password Recovery Tool is one of the easiest password recovery tools to use. It allows you to reset a user account password, including the Administrator password. It is also a relatively small download.
