I am having problems printing recipes from Master Cook 9. It begins to print and then stops. It prints the category line and then doesn't go further. I just started having problems after several weeks of everything being fine. It is not my printer as everything else prints fine. Can anyone help?

- Yes, I have printed from this software and system before. The software was working until I had a quirky problem last week and it started to freeze up on me. There is no history of a virus from my AVG scan history. Everything else prints just fine, only a problem with this mastercook.

Yes, my spoolsv.exe shows on my windows task manager.

- Yes, I ran a anti virus scan through my AVG, but it scans itself every day anyway. Is that what you mean? What could that have done? How can I check if it is a Registry problem?

Also, if I uninstall and reinstall won't I lose all the recipes I have put in so far?

Thanks so much for responding and for trying to help.

- I don't know what I did that made a difference, but all is working fine now. Thanks for your help.

Hi! :)

I have a few questions for you.

For your computer to print files there is a proccess that runs in the background called

Spoolsv.exe

In some systems that arent planning on printing at the time of installation this file can be disabled.

1) Have you printed from this system before?
A) if so when was the last time

2) Press Ctrl+Alt+Del look for that Spoolsv.exe file if its not running there is a problem

get back to me

- The only other thing i could think of is a registry problem. maybe some1 ran some antivirus or maintenance software on your computer. Most of these programs seem harmless and look like they just work by themselves when infact you need to be very carefull running some of them (most).

If this is a software that you have the disc for try un installing it and then re installing it.

to do this go to the START MENU
click CONTROL PANEL
in the control pannel click ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS
(note if this isnt visible you may need to click swith to classic view located on the left menu under file)

if this doesnt work unfortunately i dont know what to tell you. keep trying, someone will see this and help you as my answer hasnt worked :S

GL let me know how un install and re install goes if you do it

- :) No problem at all i know how it is when you have a problem and no one cares to help :)

Ok. To un install and re install while saving the installed recipes you would have to locate the saved recipes on your Hard Drive

example. I installed my Antivirus/Firewall/Process Monitor Software on a computer im working on for a friend. When i installed the application i was asked where i would like to put it. The program automatically suggests a location for it and the option to modify it. it looks something like this

C:\Program Files\Comdo Internet Security\ <---- ROOT

now when it installed the program the prorgram has its own folders and sub folders. in those folders are my sofwares "definitions" (the means it uses to search for malicious problems on my pc) (this is the same for anyones antivirus)(this is the equivilant of your recipes)

To navigate and find these files you follow the Root in your "My Computer" area. to follow this one i would open;

1) C:\
2)Program Files (NOTE space does not mean a new folder)
3)Comodo Internet Security

from there i would have to locate the folder i think the "data to be saved" (in my case "virus definitions" in yours recipees. It might be in a folder in a folder in a folder take your time and be slow and meticulous exploring these files. You cant harm them just by looking. When you figure you have the correct file do a test. Open the program and start a new recipee, Make it simple and in less than a Min. Name it something blatantly obvious (if the files are alphabetical with numerics first use a number then 3 a's "1AAA") (Maybe use all capitols?), Save the recipee. Close the file you suspect is where that data should go to and re open it (to refresh whats in it (your new recipee)
if it shows up this is where your recipees are take this whole folder and copy it to your Desktop or somewhere else you can hold it that it would be deleted by un installing the software.
(Be sure to check if there are the a few other folders in the recipee folder (shouldnt be but you never know its all in who made the software). if not good if so it might be a problem later (only if the printing setup is in these files hopefully not with any programming insight).

OK now un install the program and re install it. once done open the folders root again by following the above method **NOTE the directy or root might have changed when you un installed and re in stalled if the program was changed to a diff location when you first installed it. Not a major problem just be sure to note where it is installed when you re install it. (if you didtn i can find it for you just post again)

Now open the program in the root again and this time drag the folder we copied out into the same folder it came from (this will prompt an overwrite message click yes to all)

this should effectively save your recipees only if you are able to locate the save file (maybe there are two??? make sure you have all the save files check systematically (hopefully its not too big; ive seen nightmare situations where i had to probe hundreds and hundreads of folders :S)

NOTE if each recipee has its own folder make sure to just back up one folder and take the folder that holds them all :)

Pls respond and tell me how were doing :)

This will only fix your printing problem should the problem be the registry entries were removed by your maintenance programs. if it does fix your problem be sure to check what is being removed by these programs before you click ok.

it is alot of info to take in but when you have to time i suggest you peruse the Tuturial tab in

you can find lots of topics (my favorite tutorials are for the programs i was running. for most popular anti virii or maintenance programs they have indepth step by step tutorials **AND WARNINGS^^

:) GL

(NOTE there is a tutorial about the windows registry and what it does for your OS(operating system) the windows registry is the main cause of alot of comuter lag (epecially on faster larger computers because of the ability to moved data quickly and in large volume without worry. However your windows registry gets cluttered like a mailbox that you never room flyers from just mail. it gets harder nad harder to find your mail in the overflowing mailbox each time more stuff is added.)
Due to this allow of people and programs are offered that "Clean the windows registry". They do do a great job but the problem is is the dont differentiate between things you need sometimes and things you dont. The safest windows registry cleaner i ever ran into was called REG CURE its like 20 -60 dollars i dont know. (i downloaded it thinking the internet is just like it used to be but things are alot more complex now and you can end up with major issues (Broken hardware, Needing to pay a "Geek" to come in because each time you connect to the net it un installes your modem or IP :S) so GO BUY REG CURE you will love yourself for it. its simple and clean and it has everything a good registry editor should have. :)

(This program will also back up your windows registry EACH time its run if setup so. Virus will attach themselves to neccessary files in your system so that when you remove them your system is vulnerable or unstable or doesnt work at all. or when you un install them the registry entries they create cause your computer to dl them again without notifying you or even displaying that it is happening! :(

Your antivirus very well might have removed a few *Malicious* programs that were files you needed :S darn i hate computers why do they have to be soooo annoying??? never mind that.

the reg cure (while not the only program that backs up your registry i highly recomend it) while have these back ups of your registry that you can atleast restore to to get your system stable and retrieve information should you ever have a critical problem and want to save precious family pictures or videos (or recipees to each his own lol now im just amusing myself cause my brain hurts)

before the system is formated clean and whiped new and returned to you EMPTY :(

So ttyl
Brad
btw vote me awesome lol
(if this doesnt work there is another idea its harder lol)
