Looking to replace the motherboard of my NEC Versa S1000
Problem: I was trying to upgrade the hardrive of my laptop. Errors came up saying "such such file is not found" when installing XP. I gave up and try to use my old hardrive. Then the laptop won't turn on. Only the fan was running but nothing on the screen.
I took the laptop to a computer store for diagnostic, they said the motherboard needs to be change. But I cannot find the model of the motherboard.
P.S. This laptop is only available in Asia.

Re: Looking to replace the motherboard of my NEC Versa...
Hi, the only solution I can think of is to go to the website of the manufacturers of the laptop.
Look up your model and see what info you can find there, you could also use the
"Contact us" page that most manufacturers have.
- If you need clarification, ask it in the comment box above.
- Better answers use proper spelling and grammar.
- Provide details, support with references or personal experience.

these drivers are found at http://download.cnet.com/2000-20_4.html on the home page you should see a search tab just type in what you are looking for eg: nec versa m340 drivers you might have to try a few times to get it right hope this helps
I am not quite sure why you would need to quote the motherboard. My only thing about this is you may being trying to upgrade to an os that is not compatiable to the hardware of the NEC. Verify the hardware capatibility first, if everything is ok, move forward with your install.
You can insert the Windows XP CD while logged on Win 98 and run a test from the CD. Obviously you need a larger Hard Disk and at least 126 MB RAM to bring XP to a usable speed. You can look for RAM upgrade options in this page.
The NEC Versa m500e has 2 memory slots. Each slot can hold DDR PC2700 with a maximum of 512MB per slot.
I'm not sure where the memory is located on the Versa, but normally in the middle on the bottom of the laptop there is a memory slot. on some units the memory is located under the keyboard, so you have to remove
this first to change the memory.
Here Try this website they were the cheapest here . Hope this is what you are looking for. should be the right one thanks for looking http://www.pchub.com/uph/catf/SearchItem.aspx?ft=nec+versa+board&gclid=CPDF3O-VrpACFSBMGgodTANs8g
You need a Type 2 PCMCIA card for this laptop. I was able to find a wired one here. Be sure that your OS will work with the card you choose. Also I have no experience with that website, so buyer beware. Another good place to find older computer parts is eBay, happy hunting.
