when i boot into xp my screen randomly will turn black i can barely see image cant move lcd to adjust or it goes black. if i boot to a live cd linux or a boot up cd i dont have the lcd problem.
problems i know about.low battery need battery wont hold charge. power cord seems to be flaky. only in xp sometimes system will not get a good connection with cord. ok with bootup cd.
looked all over internet and ebay for a service manual for the 1000 but can not find. thanks for your help

- ran memtest86 from a boot cd and the lcd went black have a second monitor hook up which is still running ok.
the ac cord seems to be a little hot and the light on the front that says that you are on ac adapter is not aways on. ran a power test from a cd and it shows ac power even with the front light out. go figure.

- i took apart the keyboard and notice that the ac jack needs to be replaced. this model is known for this issue. there are few of these models on ebay with this issue
I had a similiar problem on a VAIO FPG49 I has a while back. I had 2 problems with mine: a pinched ribbon cable from the MB to the LCD. And also the tab where the monitor closes and latches to the bottom of the laptop was bad. Both can and will give the indications you have. Check them out.
