I had the same problem. Here's whutcha do: You know that USB cable that came with your calculator that hooks up to your computer? You're gonna need it. First, take out one battery from your calculator. Then hold down the DEL button. Whilst holding it down, re-insert the battery. Now turn the calculator on. Hooray! It doesn't say Garbage Collecting anymore! Now it says "Waiting... Please install operating system now." Now you hook up your calculator to your computer with that cable. Go into TI CONNECT (if you don't have it, download it at TI's official website), and transfer the newest OS (also available at TI website). Now your calculator is working again. Woohoo.

Try this:
Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [CLEAR] key. While holding [CLEAR], reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display the message "RAM Cleared". Release the [CLEAR] key and then press it one more time to remove the message.
Let me know if it helps.

My texas instrumetns saids garbage collecting

Hello,
Remove one main battery. After a little while reinsert it, and turn calculator ON. It will say Garbage collecting but it should stop quickly and say Ram Cleared.

Hope it helps.

My calculator is stuck on garage collecting. How do i fix?

That's "Garbage Collecting"...It will take it a LONG time to finish this. Let it sit for as long as it needs to in order to finish this task. Unless you want it to move slowly. If worse comes to worse, take the batteries out and let it sit for an hour or so, then replace the batteries.

Garbage collect error on a ti 89 Titanium calculator. The problem is, is that I cant archive what needs to be archived so that it wont be deleted when I garbage collect to free up space

Hello,
You can interrupt the program by removing one of the main batteries. Put battery back in calculator and turn it on. You may have to adjust contast with [2nd] and [UpArrow] keys or [2nd] and [DownArrow] keys, pressed in sequence and repeatedly until contrast is adjusted.

Reset all Ram.
If you remove apps one at time, and let garbage collector work after each deletion of apps, it may run faster and will not hang.

Hope it helps

TI-84 Plus, Garbage Collecting.....

There is an easier way. No deleting anything involved. When you turn on your calculator and it says "Garbage Collecting" take out all 4 AAA batteries. Then, either put those same 4 back in, or replace them with 4 new ones. Then, hold down the -CLEAR- button, and then at the same time, press on. If your batteries are almost dead, nothing will pop up but it will look like the screen is kind of flashing. New batteries will fix that problem in a jiffy, and then brand new calculator :) Worked for me, hope this helps!

The Garbage collect may go for 20 minutes or longer... wait a while. If that doesn't work, take out all the batteries and let it sit for 3 hours.

Garbage Collecting

graphing calulators work much like computers. The have RAM space so they can remember what you have done recently and stuff like that. So when it's garbage collecting it means it's trying to find more space. This generally means that you don't have much much ARC or RAM space left. You can see this under your memerory manager. (2nd + enter) then you can reset your calculaor(2nd plus 7 1 2) or you can go to memory manager and unarchive your programs. Fur an example you have TI 84. Most new TI 84 have sientific tools. so if you don't you it take away the archive (*) by pressing enter and then hit DEL. the more RAM space and ARC space should make it so it doens't garababe collect. Hope this works. i can help you more if this doesn't work. GOOD LUCK
