Generally TV takes RCA Cable. So You need two cable one for Video i.e. VGA to RCA Cable and another is 3.5mm Pin to RCA.
In RCA Yellow Pin is for Video so from VGA to RCA cable Connect Yellow Pin to TV and Red and White pins are for audio so connect white and red pin from 3.5mm Pin to RCA cable.
If Your TV and Laptop have HDMI Port then you just need a HDMI Cable.
But if you dont have HDMI port. then you need two cables one from video and one for audio.
For Video you either VGA Cable(if you have VGA Port in your TV) or VGA to RCA Cable (Yellow Pin will be for video)
For audio You Need 3.5mm pin to RCA (white and Red for audio).
This pic is of VGA to RCA Cable
If your TV has a VGA input or the laptop and TV have HDMI run the cable over choose the correct input on the TV "pc or hdmi" my asus auto detects the hdmi stream you may have to right click on the desktop go into video setting and choose the TV.
Hi cjb63hc Your first question is how to use the TV as your computer display. No matter which brand of LCD TV you buy, they all will have a connection port for a PC or laptop. TV's and laptops do not supply the cables. What you need are these:
VGA cable - You already have this, if you have a desktop computer. It is the cable which connects the PC to the monitor. Both ends look the same with 15 pins. OR you can buy another cable called HDMI cable the cost of which is $30 to $40
You use this cable to connect the laptop to the TV. If you need to buy this from an electronic shop, costs under $10.
You alsoo need a cable for the sound. This cable is called 3.5 mm stereo mini jack cable also called Audeo Cable. Make sure the size is correct. This will be connected from PC or laptop to the TV. The price is around $5.
You have seen people connecting the laptop to an external monitor. Here the external monitor is the TV.
The second questio- CD/DVD player. Usually they come with the necessary RGB cables. I don't think that would a big problem to figure out.
Hope this will help you. If you find this answer helpful, why don' tyou give a rating? Have a very good day. luciana44
If you have an s-video port you will need to buy s-video cables and a separate audio cable for sound. With HDMI you will only need 1 cable for both video and sound. Just connect your s-video cable to your s-video output ( your laptops quick reference manual should show you where your s-video jack is at ) and the other end to the back of your LCD tv video input ( consult your lcd tv manual )
