Call Nintendo, it's not expensive. The screens need to be calibrated after replacement.

The bottom screens on the ds lite are pretty easy to replace and can be found on ebay cheap enough. There is actually two parts too the bottom screen one is the actual lcd screen (which is what you need) and the other is the touch screen.

Sounds like the screen is broken. It may be fixable, but you're likely better off buying a new DS.

I disagree, its much cheaper to replace the screen yourself, with a steady hand, a tri-wing screwdriver and some other household tools AND A GOOD GUIDE TO FOLLOW, you can do the work yourself in under an hour

(and screen calibration can be done yourself with the built in calibration tool when you start the DS without a game in)

The only severe warning i can give for doing it yourself is this...... IF you buy a screen it probably will not have the thin foam backing that the original screen has. you MUST back the metal underside of the new screen with a non-conductive material before you fit it, so as it does not short out the mini-board (i find sellotape or masking tape does the job well)

Sounds like both your touch screen and bottom LCD screen are broken, but your back light still works. That is good news, because you can simply buy a kit to replace the LCD screen, the touch screen (two separate kits), and repair the console easily.

Unless you are comfortable of taking it apart yourself and ordering the part online.
I'd suggest going here.

How do you brighten the screen

Hi,

You need to go to the DS lites menu.Firstly take out any games you may have in the DS lite and then switch it on, when ready the DS will ask toy to touch the screen, do this and it will then take you to the DS menu.

If you look in the bottom left-hand corner of the touch screen you will see a little yellow sun, if you tap that with your stylus it will change the brightness (there are 3 levels of brightness to choose from).

All done. :)

Best if you call Nintendo to fix it,though I think they might charge you money and I'm not really sure whats the amount.but its best to just call nintendo than to buy another one.

Nintendo DS lite power light comes on but both screens stay dark?

When you boot the Nintendo DS you can change the illumination settings in the main menu.
One the main menu, you will find a sunny symbol in the lower left corner of the screen. Click on that and you should be able to change the level of illumination. If you are also wondering if you can change the brightness during game play, you can't. Games such as Mario 64 DS come with support for brightness change but otherwise you have to do it before game play.

Nintendo DS lite - dropped

Might be worth taking it into a phone repair shop to see if they can replace the LCD screen. (yes, a phone repair shop - a lot of them do portable console screens too!) If they can't do it, it's probably unfixable realistically.
