Question about AcerScan 620U Flatbed Scanner

Set Parameters Failed

I used my Acer scanner for years on my old computer with no problem. I installed it on my newer (rebuilt) computer. It all looks different now. I don't know if my son had it working through a different program (like Photoshop) or what. The thing is, that not long ago I successfully scanned a picture. I swear that in the startup menu, it had a mirascan scanner choice, which I don't have now. I realized that the installation disc that I have is disc 1. I can't find a second disc- my son may have taken it out of state- but whatever I did- maybe found the missing information online, including driver updates, I have lost this when I uninstalled and reinstalled while trying to solve this issue of not being able to scan successfully. The startup menu shows mirascan V 3.20, with choices of mirascan help and uninstall. I don't have the choice to go to mirascan scanner. It has 'copier'. In this, I seem to get everything ready to scan, but when I press the 'scan preview image' an error comes up saying 'set parameters failed'. I searched the entire help menu and it does not address this problem. I don't know what the message means- there seems to be no way to either set parameters or to remove them. Can you please tell me what I need to do? Thanks a bunch- Patti Rizzo

Re: Set Parameters Failed

I have the same problem with my Acerscan 620U flatbed scanner which I have used for years, even with XP home SP2 & 3, after I reloaded the Operating system on the same machine, (after a crash) It would not work properly, so I searched for new drivers and softwareafter not finding anything useful here, I went to and found 2 files for the 620U. A zipped file containing the original (Win 95-98) install disks - 2Megs, (pasted from Driverguide);
Model Acerscan 620U Manufacturer Acer info_icon.gif Operating Systems Win95, Win98 Device Type Scanner File Name
Uploader Notes This is the install softwarefor the AcerScan 620U, which is the USB model. I wasn't able to find itanywhere on and when I tried to download the latestversion off of the Acer website it didn't work, crashed my graphicsprograms. This one worked perfect. How it works
This will give you and
Unzip to a folder called disk1.
Unzip to a folder called disk2.
Runthe 'Setup.exe' file in the 'disk1' folder - halfway through it'll askyou where 'disk2' is. browse to wherever you've unzipped disk2 andthat's it!

I also downloaded a 14 meg file "mirascanv403u10.exe" (<a rel='nofollow' href="">Acer AcerScan 620U Driver</a>) which is supposed to work with W95-98, ME, W2000, XP (with mixed reviews)and Mac-OSX, I haven't tried either of these yet although I will try the Mirascan file first. For many users the difference may be that when setting up an XP machine you have the option to use a FAT32 file system or an NTFS partition, it may be that the software doesn't work with the NTFS partition/filesystem.

If you send me a request to I will send you either or both of the files as an attachment until Jan 10 2009 then I delete them, (or you can get them from Driverguide) I'll also let you know what worked for me.

Re: Set Parameters Failed

I'm having the same problem with my scanner Primascan Colorado 2400. Looking for a solution I landed on this page.
Website of scanner:
Answers there: nihil.

I bought this scanner some years ago. Worked very well with WindowsME, and until yesterday as well with WindowsXP-SP2 on my overall usually very compliant and compatible modern computersystem.
I used to scan from IrfanView. It always called the scanmanagerprogram very satisfyingly.

But as of yesterday following error-message:
(translated from Dutch) "Can't find entrypoint of procedure _P_ImageDownSample@24 in DLL-file ImgProc.dll."

I've noticed that WindowsXP has two ImgProc.dll's in \system32.
One from the scanner-installation and one probably installed with WindowsXP.

I've installed and reinstalled this very decent scanner several times. And it gets wel detected, without hardware-conflicts.
But, as it worked perfectly before on this same system, it suddenly doesn't anymore.

A pitty.
Maybe I will come back here when I've found the solution if noone else has by that time.

Computer can't "see" scanner even though plugged into USB port

please check:
if other usb-devices work with your pc, so usb ports of your machine are ok.
try connecting the printer to another machine, using same procedure as u did with the old one

did you get any installation cd with it?
any newer drivers for your win-system available?( inet, manufacturers homepage)

if your system and the printer passed the hardware check, install newer drivers and try again.

wish u luck

I have the same model and problem if installing from original CD on Windows XP (the driver is old and not for XP). The new XP driver will work.

I lost my softare driver for acer flatbed 640BU scanner

first decide on which particular operating system you want to use use the scanner. Then try to install tyhe drivers. If on both check for the architecture as well 32 bit or 64 bit. Initially uninstall alln the entries for the scanner from add and remove programs or delete all the entries using microsoft cleanup utility tool. Then try installing the drivers it should work.

Driver download

You need to download and install drivers again. The only website distributing drivers for Mirascan is this one , as Acer dose not provide drivers for this device anymore. You will need to subscribe to website to download drivers
Unplug Scanner before installing drivers, plug it back only when finished installing or when required

Need manual and installation instructions Windows 98SE

This site has drivers for all versions of windows, and a manual. These are not the drivers made by the manufacturer - Acer does not support this scanner any longer and has no drivers for Windows Vista, XP, 2000 or NT. It also includes a manual that outlines how to use mirascan with this scanner, but does not seem to go into detail on how to set up the actual scanner. Still, it should just be a matter of connecting it to your parallel port (the only port the cable should fit in on your computer), plugging in the power, and running the driver software. Once that's up, the manual can tell you how to use the software. Of course, I wasn't able to test this, because I don't have the scanner.

Install my scanner with winXP

In a word you cannot. Try the Acer site to see if they offer a suitable software conversion- but this late on it is not likely. You could try/Start/Programs/Accessories/Compatibility Wizard- then set the software you use to 'Run as 95/98 - it may work. What it amounts to is this- A scanner has its own processor that controls the scan tracking the capture device DPI and all that and in your case it is looking for DOS commands and XP is sending out NTFS commands - and they no speak to each other.
