Question about Toshiba 50H13 50" Rear Projection Television

50H13 Red Convergence Problem

My the red on my TV just went out of alignment. the problem seems to be that the red signal is raised somewhat in the bottom-left of the screen. I tried the Touch Focus and it completes with an error. Same over and over again. I've read several article about adjusting the convergence using the service codes but don't feel completely comfortable with that. Is this just an alignment issue or something larger like a board replacement? I've had this TV for about 6 years. Bought new. Is it worth the service call and repair? Any idea what something like that would cost? TIA.

The TV hasn't been bumped or moved in some time. Are there any advanced convergence adjustments I should try or is it beyond that? The convergence issue appears to be in the vertical direction only - appears as a distortion in the horizontal "touch focus" lines.

I should add that I've tried the convergence adjustments available in the general menu and when attempting to adjust the red convergence it will only adjust left-to-right not up-and-down. Blue adjusts in all directions. Green is fixed postion for this adjustment.

Can anyone else speak more specifically to this issue such as your experiences in having this type of issue fixed by a professional and what that may cost. Assume that I am not familiar nor confortable sticking my fingers into the electronics or desoldering and resoldering resistors in a board. Any recommended repair folks in the Raleigh, NC area? TIA.

I do wish people like troylove11 would stop giving advice on things they obviously know very little about. The Toshiba projection sets never have loose connections on the convergence IC's, and there are never bad resistors in those sets. There is no separate convergence board and there are no adjustments on any boards. The convergence adjustments are done electronically, through the remote in the service mode. Also, moving or bumping a projection set cannot cause a solder joint to crack loose. Your set has 2 large convergence IC's and one of them has burned out. This is very common in projection sets. Do not attempt to enter the service mode to make adjustments, because you will only be messing up the correct settings and when the new IC is installed, the colors will still be way out of alignment. Replacing a convergence IC is a very simple thing for an experienced tech, and it is well worth getting the set fixed. If your set uses the STK392-010 IC's, it is probably a good idea to go ahead and replace both IC's with the newer, upgraded STK392-150 IC's. If you have not changed the convergence settings, the picture will return to normal once the IC is replaced and very little realignment will be necessary. When I do a housecall for a set like that it takes about an hour and a half and I charge $150, but shops in your area will vary so ask around.

Yes, it could be from the convergence amp having a loose connection. Big Screen tv's have problems with loose connection especially when moved or bumped. If you can take back off and find convergence amps then safely tap on ic's and see if it changes picture then it's maybe just aloose conn. If no change then you need to check resistors inline to red. At the most replace IC's these are the large STK's by a heatsink. Hope this helps!

It sounds like the Vertical Red, If you look on the convergence board with all the adjustments, there you should read Vertical red line or center or something in this affect. There should be a resistor bad in this area. Convergence is really a touchy area, you could do something and throw it all out, so if you want to take the chance, I personally would not move any of the pots there just correct the problem. Find the open or shorted resistor and replace. Sorry can't tell you exactly where it is, it maybe discolorated are just completely burnt out. Even look like the other resistors but has a different value.

50PL9126D/37B 50 in. HDTV DLP TV: the red green and blue colors dont align properly...

Your convergence is out. If it's just out a little, you can adjust with your remote or with older sets there are knobs. If it's way out then your convergence block went out and you'll need to replace it yourself if you're technically adept or take it into the shop for repair.

Tv out of foucs

These procedures are from the owners manual, go into menu and then picture quality and then: Convergence The Convergence feature lets you adjust the TV’s three tubes. When the TV tubes’ images are precisely aligned, they create the color images you see on the screen. Over time, the picture can drift out of alignment (this is normal). If your picture seems fuzzy or has a yellow tint, using Convergence could correct this misalignment. Only one convergence is needed for all inputs, regardless of the signal format. Note: Make sure the TV has been on for at least 30 minutes (TV needs to warm up for best results) before starting Auto Converge or Red/Blue Centering. When you select the Convergence feature, a submenu appears with three options: Auto Converge Automatically aligns the projection lenses to self-correct color images. You’ll see flashing squares of color dance across the screen (this is normal). Note: After performing auto convergence, use the Blue Centering and Red Centering menus to fine tune convergence in the center of the screen, if necessary. Blue Centering Aligns the blue and green images to fine-tune the picture. Red Centering Aligns the red and green images to fine-tune the picture. Note: The ability to change channels is disabled when adjusting the convergence options. The TV must be tuned to a usable signal to converge the picture.

Red color convergence issue; Red lines are curved

This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Go to this Blog. It "should " solve the problem.
Really, Really simple, do it your self solution !!
Instructions and pictures included :D

Ken , the poster of that Blog writes........

"The problem is with the convergence via the voltage on the
color ray gun tubes that get out of adjustment.
They are also known as retrace lines."............

This blog covers many makes and models with many
issues solved, just with that one solution

Give it a try, it's FREE and SIMPLE :D

Hope the blog helps you also :)

Adjusting the convergence after replace convergence chips

Hello fmnii,

Believe it or not the easy part was the replacing of the convergence amplifiers. Now for the hard part, static and dynamic convergence of the TV. To do this, what I usually do is not trust the onboard cross-hatch and alignment patterns, for this I use a signal/pattern generator to create the cross-hatch and alignment patterns. I follow the static convergence instructions first, and then the dynamic convergence instructions. This process taks about 6 - 12 hours (Yes 6 - 12 hours) if done correctly. I say use the instructions because each TV set is different. It sounds like you have your static convergence well in hand and you just need to do the dynamic.

If you can, try to get a signal/pattern generator (I use the VA62A).

I wish you well,

Thank you,

Convergence issue

try fixing the convergence 2 after your've aligned the convergence 1 - the second (accessed via the set up control) let's you adjust on 9 different axis to align the red and blue tubes to the green. you select which + sign you want to adust by pressing the corresponding number for the + ie 1 for the top left, and 9 for the lower right corner.

good luck (note - you cant change the green only the red and blue, if the whole edge is a mess try moving the image (you need to be in zoom mode, and then access the position adjustment via the pitcure set up screen.
