Screen goes light and dark

This morning, I turned on the Tv and the scrren was dark. You can still see the picture, but it was like the brightness was turned right down. So I unplugged it for 2 hours so it would reset, which seemed to work. But then it started going light to dark. But when I go to HD channels, its crystal clear. When I tried the DVD player, it goes dark again. Help!

Re: screen goes light and dark

Check the connections from the DVD player, make sure they are not loose. If the DVD player has it's own brightness, contrast or gamma settings, they may have changed, in which case reset them to default if you have that option, or just play with them until you have it sorted. Quite possibly your DVD player may have a feature that you can enable that dims or brightens the image by the touch of a button, look out for that. However it seems unlikely it's a problem with the TV - the only thing I would say about the TV is it may be the ports which the DVD player uses to connect to the TV. The only way to find out if it is the TV or not is to try a different DVD player with it.

Our Mitsubishi WD 52525 goes to blue screen and shuts off.

It sounds like you TV is overheating and the video is suffering and the lamp is overheating as well. Also, if your TV is over 2-3 years old, the mirrors (behind and below the big front screen) desperately need to be cleaned. Clean all filters and fans as well. (Look on side and behind the unit). Is the TV in a "hot" environment and/or dirty environment? DLP TV's are NOT sealed units. They need to be cleaned every few years to work well to have a good, clear, bright picture.

Tv will not turn on

For dark picture I need to ask one question, How long ago you replaced its lamp? one year, two years?

Picture brightness is depends on lamp in LCD rear projection (DLP) TVs and if lamp got weak in generating light, you will see dark picture.

I would recommend to replace lamp and buy Sony original lamp from Sony Accessories Store.

Required lamp part number is as follows..
F93087500 LAMP BLOCK ASSY XL-2400
and price is $200
Good luck.

Dark over night

Does the TV have a light sensor? If so, turn it off.
The light sensor limits the backlights intensity at night or when it's dark in your room in order for better vieweing convenience.

If you are in a dark environment, it really pains your eyes when the view is too bright. Same works the other way around. If it's day, and light in your room. The light sensor will dimm the backlight for it isn't needed.

Let me know if this solved your question.

Roger, if your contrast (sometimes called picture) and brightness controls are at max you can increase the tubes brightness by turning the "screen control" clockwise, be advised a little turn goes a long ways, don`t crank it too far or you will get retrace lines, you will have to remove the back from the set and follow the red wire down from the tube to the "flyback transformer" on the front of the flyback are 2 controls, focus and screen, do not move the focus control, this should fix your problem.
