Choked and died while idling ,i try to start it again wouldnt start ,could itbe a timing belt ??

More likely it is a fuel problem. but could be a spark problem (timing belt has to do with spark) or least likely it could be the air intake. To check if you have the proper spark (coming due to a good timing belt) pull the number one spark plug and use a gapping tool (it's cheap tool but works good) to check the spark plug. If the spark plug has the correct gap then turn the key to watch if it sparks if it does't spark try a new plug if that doesn't spark you may need a timing belt. To check if it is the timing belt you do not really need to check the gap of the plug but if you already have the plug out and it is not the timing belt this information could be very useful. With more info I could probably narrow it down for you, post back if you like.

Need to replace sparkplugs on 2002 ford escape

well replace spark plugs is not a hard job, when replacing spark plugs, good time to replace plug wires also.you need to replace one spark plug at a time so you wont mix up firing order. you need a spark socket, torque wrench, 3/8 ratchet wrench, 3/8 short and long extensions, you need a spark plug gap gauge.spark plug gap for 2.0 engine 0.051 the 3.0 engine spark plug gap is 0.052 - 0.056. just follow spark plug wires they will lead you to the spark plugs.warning wait until engine cool down first because removing spark plugs from hot engine could damaged the aluminum heads, use compressed to blow away debris before removing spark plugs keep debris falling into the cylinders.wear safety glasses if you use compress air and use small amount anti seize compound to the spark plug threads.good idea slip a short length rubber hose over the end of spark plug to use as a tool thread it into place.reason i use piece vacuum hose it will grip the spark plug enough to turn it, but will start to slip if the plug begin to cross thread.when installing spark plug, it should turn at least few times if spark plug start tighten before 1/4 turn thread cross threading need to back off start over dont keep turning you will stripped spark plugs threads in the head also damage spark plug threads, so be careful, good luck with job.

Hello, I would like to know the gap for the spark plugs for a 2006 dodge stratus xst, 2.4 litre engine, 4 cyl. Also, where is the timing belt located, is the water pump behind it and should be pulled...

Plug gap = 1.1 mm (0.043")
Timing belts should be replaced at about 50000 to 60000 miles (80000 to 100000 Km.)
The belt is under the plastic covers at the front of the motor behind all the other belts etc. Only change the water pump if it leaks. The PCV valve should not have any effect on the vacuum, it is for ventilating the crankcase, I hope this is the location for yours, the description was not very clear.

Need do know the spark plugs gap

If you're replacing the spark plugs in your car engine, you'll need to set the gap before reseating the spark plug. The gap is the distance electricity arcs between the ground electrode and center electrode. The gap must be set correctly to ensure maximum performance. Here's how to set the gap of a spark plug.

  1. Remove the spark plug wires. Use a socket wrench to remove the spark plugs from their chambers.
  2. Clean the spark plug if you are not replacing it with a new one. Remove all dirt and debris from the spark plug.
  3. Check the owner's manual for your car (or any appliance with spark plugs) to find out the recommended gap setting.
  4. Use a gap tool to check the gap of the spark plug. Slip the tool between the ground electrode and center electrode. The gap tool should fit snugly at the recommended gap width indicated on the tool.
  5. Push the tool between the electrodes a few times to ensure proper gap. If the gap is too wide, push the ground electrode firmly against a flat surface to narrow the gap and then check again with the gap tool.
  6. Repeat Step 5 as necessary until you reach the correct gap. Reseat the spark plug and reattach the spark plug wires
Good Luck

PUTTING IN SPARK PLUGS

  1. Expect spark-plug work to be tedious. If this is your first time, plan 3 or 4 hours after engine cools (or 1 hour on several days), allowing 15 minutes per plug.
  2. Consult your vehicle's manual. Look up where your spark plugs are, how many you have, the correct "gap", and the size socket needed to remove them. Also write down the vehicle's make, model, and year.
  3. Visit your local auto parts store. Find (either by looking up in the provided reference book or by asking an employee) the correct spark plugs for your vehicle. The store also has socket wrenches, plus spark-plug sockets (with gasket), and socket-extension rods or swivel-joints to reach recessed plugs.
  4. Find out (from the reference book, the packaging, or the employee) if these spark plugs need to be "gapped". Some modern plugs should not be gapped (but others can have different gaps, depending on use in either 6-cylinder or V-8 engines, etc.).
  5. Park vehicle, turn off the engine, and open the engine compartment, to cool for hours. (WARNING: After running a car for a long time, the spark plugs can be the hottest part of engine! While it can require several hours to cool enough, it can require several weeks to heal burnt skin.)
  6. Take (if needed) a wire-gauge spark plug gap tool and adjust the distance between the two electrodes. Between the electrodes is where a spark is made. One electrode will be an L-shaped piece of metal (hook), the other a metal prong centered directly across from it. Set the gap between the two electrodes, from .028-.060 inch, such as .035/.040 /.043 /.050, as in book (see Tips below).
  7. Collect tools & new plugs (perhaps in a tool-tray). Remember which direction the socket-wrench switches to reverse/unscrew: wrench might not be visible when working back plugs.
  8. Check fit of new plugs inside wrench-socket gasket. If new plugs stick to rubber gasket, consider removing gasket with screwdriver in square hole, to just use tape. Like taping screws to a screwdriver, the socket can be taped to spark plugs (not the threads) with scotch tape, for easy release once inside the engine. Otherwise, have pliers to pry the socket off new plugs once installed.
  9. Locate (with the help of your manual or a repair manual for your vehicle) the distributor spark-plug cables/wires. The number of wires will be equal to the number of spark plugs your engine has. Often these wires are red or black, and will be equally divided on opposite sides of the engine.
  10. Using masking tape, mark each of these wires for where they connect. Don't rely on memory: if interrupted, easy to forget, and engine can run rough with crossed plug wires. For 8 cylinders, deducing plug connections is almost impossible (120 choices for 5 wires) -- in that case you must contact an expert or study wiring guides.
  11. Remove each spark-plug cable, pulling the caps (to avoid breaking cable wires). Caps should come loose by very intense twisting/pulling (avoid jerking/hitting fingers).
  12. Using a spark-plug socket, remove each plug from the engine, and replace each with a new spark plug. Don't over tighten (usually just 1/16 turn, after finger-tight).
  13. Replace the spark-plug cables on the same plugs they originally came from, and remove the masking tape.
  14. Remove tools near engine (beware the moving belts), close your engine compartment, and start your vehicle.

Spark plugs

Hi..
Good. The spark plugs, Are located on top of the engine. On each cylinder.
Some cars come with a plastic cover on top of the Engine and you will need to remove to see the Ignition wires. Remove the ignition wires and with a 5/8 socket you will remove the spark plugs.

Be careful Don't drop, because the gap can be out of calibration.
Replace the Ignition wires if need.

Ok. if you have more questions let me know.

Thank you for use fixya..

Do not know where spark plugs are located in motor

the spark plugs wires are directly located on top of the engine and the spark plugs are down inside the holes in the valve cover itself. I believe there are also 2 coils on top of the engine, which hide two of the spark plug wires which are attached directly to the underside of each coil, remove the coil pull it upward carefully and you will find the spark plugs for those two in the hole underneath the coil for each one. If you decide to replace the plugs, make sure to check the spark plug gap even if they tell you they are pre-gapped as pre-gapped spark plugs are usually gapped for more than one particular car and it may be incorrectly gapped for your specific vehicle. If you decide to also replace the spark plug wires, you will have to purchase the spark plug wires for the underside of each coil seperately because most local auto parts stores only sell 2 spark plug wires in the set that go onto the non-coil attached wires and plugs, and you have to purchase the coil spark plug wires seperately. So all in all you should have 4 spark plug wires, 2 that attach directly underneath the 2 coils, then 2 regular type wires that run to the other spark plugs. If you look at the valve cover and see the wires, you will see what i am saying better. Just don't forget to ask the autoparts store the spark plug gap recommended for you car, and adjust the gap on the plugs as needed. good luck.
