Venturer SVR2880 DVD Recorder/Player

The recorder will not recognize a disc when inserted for recording. It indicates that a new disc has been inserted and that it needs to be formatted but then it says the disc is damaged and unuseable. I have tried a variety of brand names of DVD+R and DVD+R/W
and I get the same results. I can take the same disc and record on it with my DVD writer on my computer. The player plays CD and DVD ok but will not record. - Solution?
