I bought a new handicam with projection(Sony DCR PJ5e). It records in memory card in MPEG2 format and able to play . But when I try to play clips with same format by using memory card, the camcoder does not recognize the clips. Can any one suggest a solution. Such clips are able to see in the camcoder's LCD pannel by using external player and AV cord

Many camcorders will save and play video in familiar file formats, but they often use different and sometimes incompatible or conflicting specific video codecs.

Your model saves and plays back using Video Codec "MPEG2-PS". Make sure that your computer or other device is able to save and play that same specific codec, or search for a download for that codec.

No sound when I play back recordings with Sony DCR-HC62E Camcorder?

Question edited to add the make and fix typos.

I wondered if there was a Mute feature for the microphone, but I don't see it in the manual. There is however a warning that you can't get sound from a clip that was recorded with 4 channel sound. It sounds like you may just have a faulty microphone.

New DCR-TRV260 won't play my old tapes

I have the same problem. I just bought a sony handyman and tried to play my old tapes and nothing, not even sound. But I just recorded something using an old tape and it records and I can play that back. I'm thinking maybe over time, somehow all the data on there got erased. Which is really a bummer.

Possible there are errrors in the memory. transfer the recorded files and then format the drive. If not connect to the PC after downloading the software and check for errors. If not there are errors in the drive.

Sony handicam dcr hc17e can play back previous recordings but wont record says shutter is closed when its not and tells me to reattatch battery when it is attatched

This is usually caused by a defective CCD image sensor and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

Archiving Digital Camcorder Video - Ideal Formats

Let's try to bottomline this. If you want said DVD to play in most players, you'll be encoding the video according to standards. The current DVD is MPEG2. At the current time, most people just have DV camcorders so you don't see the generational loss as you move the video from DV to DVD. At least I don't.
