The FBT (high voltage transformer) is bad.

How do I fix my model tv No picture but knocking sound?

The knocking sound is the high voltage trying to fire. That would tell me that the high voltage splitter has failed or one of the 3 picture tubes (not lamps) has failed. Most likely too expensive to repair a TV that old.

Why do we have sound but no picture?

This is an older picture-tube projection TV.
There are just a few things that can affect all three color tubes at the same time. One of these is "Blanking" and the other is the High Voltage.

Blanking happens when there is not a good signal to the TV, and the high voltage and therefore picture are shut off to protect the high voltage system. Make sure there is a good, strong signal to test it from, like a DVD player, otherwise the TV could blank off from low signal levels. A signal good enough to produce sound may not be good enough to keep the picture on, so that is not a good indication of good signal.

The other, High Voltage, is complicated and dangerous to work on and best left to a qualified technician to work on. High voltage in a TV can hurt or even kill you if you get across it.

RCA R52WH77 - The picture will go out after about 20 minutes but sound is still on. Turning tv off/on will not get picture back on. I must unplug tv for awhile, then picture will work for about 20...

Your horizontal or vertical chip is failing after they get hot causing your set to loose its high voltage. Whenever one of them fails completely your set will fail to come on. If you are a tech check all the caps even the ceramic ones in the high voltage section before replcacing a chip.

The tv is a Magnavox 51MP392H/17 and has sound but no picture. Any ideas?

TV is in high voltage shutdown protection mode. Check to see if Horizontal output transistor is shorted or open. If not then resolder all solder joints on HV transformer. If this does not fix it then you will need to do voltage checks off of H.O.T. and then possibly a bad HV transformer.

I have a somsong hd tv and when i push the power button the tv want come on no picture. I hear a click sound every twenty seconds but no power seem to be getting to the picture tube tv mod# LNS4041DX

Based on your message, your TV has a bad high voltage section. Probably the HOT (Horizontal Output Transistor) failed or shorted and it either killed the high voltage or there's a current fluctuation; that is why the picture went, but there's a clicking sound. Then, when you turned it off or unplugged it the protection circuit remained active.

Once the high voltage fluctuates, that's the time the TV would create a clicking sound.

There's a 75% probability it will require a high voltage and horizontal deflection amplifier overhaul. The normal cost of that should be less than $200 if you take it in.

For this problem, I would suggest to contact a repair tech and have him take care of the problem.

Good luck!

I turn my tv on and and can hear it but no picture, then it turns off by itself and the red lamp light comes on

It is not a good idea for electronic products to be in storage for long periods of time. It is even a more poor idea to purchase used from a rental center; the result is more often than not a very bad experience.

With no picture, but working sound, it is a loss of the high voltage system. This is almost always failure of the high voltage autotransformer called the flyback and/or the HOT (horizontal output transistor) - which work together in producing the horizontal scan of the raster system and the high voltage to prduce the raster upon which the video picture is modulated.

The failure could very well be from HIGH temperature involved with the storage of the tv set.

The repair costs will be over $150 but not more than $300; depending on the exact parts that need replaced.

But: try the hard reset and the vibration/whacking test first to see if the moving business caused failures.

Hard Reset: Unplug for 4 hours, then try again. Do it twice.

Phillips 60" magnavox chassis # PTV843

Hello lagqboy,
It looks like you are having a high voltage problem where one or more of the HV components are failing. The picture starting off small and the growing as the TV heats up is a sign of this (high voltage) problem. The problem experienced when a bright scene occurs is due to poor high voltage regulation. I would suggest that you take this set to a qualified TV repair shop due to the fact that the section I am talking about deals with voltages that can be fatal.
I hope this helps,
Thank you,

No picture or sound - TV makes chirping noise

The chirping sound is the power supply coming up then breaking down because there is a short somwhere in the high voltage. The most common fail in this area is the horizontal output is shorted ( 237470 ) but what cause this short could be simple cold solder joints or the High voltage transformer ( 239111 ) If you have noway to "ring" the flyback change both parts
