Hear a sound like it is trying to power up and picture does not come on. thanks for any information.
The clear bulb located back left side needed to be replaced. Too much heat causes the bulb to burn out. Simple fix. One screw to open door to bulb compartment. Two screws to remove bulb assembly. Thank goodness for extended service warranty which paid for it. This is the second one in three years. At the price of $200 for bulb and $100 for trip and labor, this is not an inexpensive fix. Anyone purchasing a projection tv should get an extended warranty.

I just had this problem fixed. In my case, it was because the insulation on the CRTs was cracked, and when it would warm up, the shielding would separate and would let 5000 volts arc across the main board. This, obviously, damaged the board. The tech didn't catch the arcing right away, so they replaced the main board twice before they used a high-temp RTV to patch the insulation.
The power-cycling was a result of the damaged board.
The point of this story is that the broken part may be a symptom of the real problem.
I hope this helps someone!
