Error 00163 and 00173 on THINKPAD 600X will not let initialize

Error 174 is hard disk drive failure, you'll need a new hard drive. But since that is a 2002 era system you might consider a new notebook too.

II. Installation instructions

1. To install device support, extract the package to a directory on the hard disk drive.
2. Start the Multimedia Application Install program:
   • On the OS/2 desktop double click the OS/2 System folder, click the System Setup folder, click Install/Remove, then click Multimedia installation program, or
   • Alternatively, you can execute MINSTALL from an OS/2 command prompt or browse the installation diskette with the OS/2 drives utility and double-click the icon for install.cmd.
3. Once you are in the multimedia installation program, select the drive and subdirectory you copied the driver to. The installation program will show Crystal Audio PCI (Pre-selected)
4. Click the install button to proceed with the installation. Read and follow the instructions provided by the installation program.
5. After you complete the installation, restart the system.

NOTE: To remove audio and MIDI drivers, select zero devices when prompted for the number of devices to install. Selectable choices are 0 and 1.

what happens when you power on the machine, do you get a error message? is there a hard drive installed on the computer and is it working?
Is windows installed?
what error messages are you getting?

my ibm 600x thinkpad wont load anythig, it comes up as Error 00178 and 00301 and 00188

Check that the
operating system is
installed in the hard
disk drive. If not,
install the operating
system.

device.
3. Check the startup
sequence for the
correct boot device.
4. Check that the
operating system has
no failure and is
installed correctly

All versions of windows except Vista and Windows 7.
You may find it difficult to purchase Windows version up and including XP.
You may need to install more RAM and a a 6 to 10 Gb hard drive.
The smallest hard drive available is approx 100Gb but the BIOS in the Thinkpad won't support a hard drive this large.

Did you try that DVD on other machine ?? Check on the property that its a DVD/CD drive.Incase more information I'm here to help you.

you need to update the BIOS.

ibm is providing their computer with a relevant bios updtes . bios updte will solve most of this type of problems
