There is paper in the tray and ink in the printer. When I go to print something, the carriages makes a noise, then the orange light (check paper, check print cartridge) comes on and I can't print

Make sure you don't have a piece of paper inside the machine blocking the carriage, and that the print heads are properly/securely seated in the carriage.

HP PSC 1610 printer gives error message: Carriage Jam, clear carriage. I open the door and there isn't a Jam. I tried the solution (clean cartridge, turn off/on couldn't reset) posted by nanotech 9 Aug...

If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.

Follow the steps for fix HP Printer Carriage Jam

  • Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
  • Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
  • Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Printer won't recognize ink cartridge

you can try by cleaning the copper contacts on the cart .. and if it works fine with the old cart i.e if it doesnt gives any error with the old ones then possibly the problem might be with the new cart..

Piece that holds in the ink cartridge broke i need a part where

HP doesn't stock any of those small plastic pieces for us to order. The best bet is Ebay or garage sale for a scrapped printer.

My printer says carriage jam and I have no idea how to clear it!!  We need it for a school paper due tomorrow.  Please help!!!

there's a quick way out but if it doesnt work then you may want to start thinking about replacing the printer (yes, as it sounds)

the carriage has an electronic band that 'tells' it what's its position at any time, we call it the decoder band. if it.s ripped, out of place or dirty it might not be giving the correct position and so it jams.

check it out, you will need to remove the front an dupper cover at least, this band im telling you should be on the back of the carriage and goes along with it from side to side. dont touch it but the edges and clean it with alcohol/cotton. make sure it dryes off before turning on.

you may also want to try the decoder reader wich is mounted on the carriage, just where the band touches the carriage, is where the info is recieved. same procedure for cleaning.

hope this works.

There is a narrow piece of "film- looking strip that had come

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, the part that you described is the encoder strip. It contains barcode like markings which tells the print head of its location. The easiest would be to look for a notch or opening at the rear of the print head/cartridge holder. It would have to fit in flat and then turn to standing position. An alternative is to remove one end of the encoder strip and slide it in the opening at the back of the print head and then reattach at the freed end. it would be required that the encoder be cleaned free of smudges/ink/marks as these would make the printer think there is a jam on the carriage.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Carriage jam

I had this same problem with an HP2355v. There is a carriage directly below the print heads (on the right side of the printer) where the ink is dumped during the cleaning process. The carriage needs to be able to freely move (fore and aft). I noticed that my carriage was really gummed up on the left side of the carriage. I cleaned the edge of the carriage and the channel where it travels with alcohol and qtips. The carriage now moves with minimal effort and the error is fixed! Good luck.
