Re: icon disappeared from desktop on my mac

By stating the System Profiler environment, I asume you're a Macintosh user. Try going into your DISK UTILITIES folder. Appllications/Utilities/Disk Utility And when/if the drive appears in the the pane on the left, select it and hit the MOUNT button at the top of the window. If the drive fails to mount, you may need data recovery software or services. Usually when a drive enclosure box has a flickering led, it's usually to see the drive activity as far as reading or writing to the drive. The drive may be struggling to mount or there are bad blocks or sectors on the drive. Hope this helps.

I think the problem is because mounting problem of the logical drive .In this case to access your data in the drive you just need a macbook hard drive recovery tool .Remove the drive from your pc install the drive in some other mac pc and start it in target mode .Install this recovery tool and start recovering files but save it in different healthy drive .I am suggesting this tool because it works good for my missing partition problem. But purchase the full version to get good results. The demo version link is here...

These units have problems with the hibernate/sleep functions of windows. It should power down when the PC actually is fully shut down, but not when it goes into sleep mode. Well, for starters you probably want to go into the driver settings and turn off the long strip of light. It serves no real purpose but has been reported to cause heat issues. I'm slightly worried that these heat issues may be what's causing your problem. Once you've done that, disconnect the power and USB from the drive. Let it sit for a good 10 minutes, to make sure it's fully cooled down, then plug the power back in, and then the USB cable. If that doesn't restore it, you'll have to remove it from device manager. Disconnect the USB again. Then right click on your my computer icon (either on your desktop or your start menu) and choose properties. That brings up a System Properties window. Click on the Hardware tab, and then on Device Manager. In Device Manager, look for this drive. You may have to hit a couple + signs to expand some things before you find it. Right click on it, and choose uninstall. Once that's done, reboot for good measure (you PROBABLY don't need to reboot, but it never hurts), and then plug the USB back in. It should detect and reinstall the drive. If you do that, you'll want to go back into the driver settings and disable the light again.

The hard drive is working fine but as I added it as a second Lacie drive (daisy chained) some of my files in my main drive were switched around. Using Pro Tools, the sound banks stored in my 2nd drive are...

My wife just bought one of these a few weeks ago. We noticed right away that it would loose or change settings. If it powered down you had to reboot it or the computer or both before it would recover. There was also some issues with security settings. The driveitself seems to be fine but windows or the ports settings do need to be played with to get it to behave. I changed the time outs and power tomax out and it seemed to settle it down on ours. Not sure this will help in your case but it seems to be where these problems come from.

LaCie d2 Quadra is inert: service/repair or buy new one?

Check with LaCie's support site at and it's a good idea that you write down the serial number of your external disk.

My mac is not recognizing my Lacie 1 TB, it started a week ago. It used to work fine for 2 months or so. I got this Lacie less than 3 months ago. I have fully stored my all my music there, but now I can t...

I had the same issue -- turned out that power supply was going bad so the drive wouldn't spin up all the way; this could explain the strange noises you're hearing. I put in a support ticket with LaCie at their website and they sent me a new power supply at no charge (I was within the warranty period, I think).

Daisy chain my external hard-drives

I don't think these drives are designed to be daisy chained. This worked for SCSI drives, but not for USB drives.

Don't get it

I notice that you had issues initially installing the drive. Is it possible hat your actions as noted in the link corrupted the HFS+ formatting that was shipped on the drive?

Review this link

If as you noted THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME YOU USED THE DRIVE, you have no data on the drive to loose or recover.

Especially if you believe your actions may have corrupted the formatting of the drive, reformatting may be the appropriate response and could yield a working drive eliminating many return headaches. However if this does not seam reasonable contact with LaCie as to why the drive did not work directly out of the box may be appropriate. (I did confirm in the drive specs that the drive should have been formatted correctly for an apple computer -- windows users need to reformat the drive before they can use it )

I hope this helps

It sounds as if the enclosure has failed. IF THE DRIVE IS GETTING POWER, but not making strange noises, you may just need to extract the drive from the enclosure. Keep your fingers crossed. If the drive has been affected, data recovery may be the solution. Good luck.
