Battery will not charge

My digital camera worked fine yesterday. I tried to charge it as normal using the charger, but instead of a continuous red light indicating charging I see a flashing red light. Normally the camera takes around 2 hours to charge, but after this time the red light was still flashing and the camera will not switch on, presumably as it has not charged. Could this be the battery? or perhaps the charger?

I have a similar problem. The charger shows correct but on completion the camera wont switch on. It is not the battery as I bought a new one (£33!)

    What next

  • Anonymous Nov 27, 2007

I just bought a new ex-z75, put the new battery to the charger and the red light kept flash forever. after the battery having been charged for two hours, insert the battery to the camera, the camera did not turn on.
    what a shame.

I have the same problem as well. Instead of a constant red light, I get a flashing light and it goes on indefinitely (tried overnight several times). Camera will not operate at all!

  • Anonymous Feb 11, 2008

I went to use my camera on saturday having not used it for a while and when I tried to switch it on nothing happened. I assumed that I needed to charge it and left it to charge overnight however when I came to take it off the charger I noticed that the charge light was still red and that it was flashing, and there was still no power getting to the camera. Does this mean that the battery is not charging, and if so why, and what can I do to solve this problem, I have this camera less than a year.

I found this while searching to find an answer to solve my problem. It worked! Some say that it took them about 20 times... it took me about 7. Be patient and just keep trying! Hope this helps!

My NP 20 gave me the flashing red light of death and I got Casio to replace it. Then I had the same problem with my second NP 20 so I dug around for a way to fix it and I found the following advice on a site called FixYa. It worked instantly and I didn't risk ruining my battery.

I had the same problem as this.
what i did was...
i kept putting the battery on the charger then took it off as soon as the red light came on.
i did this about 6 times.
doing this puts a bit of charge in the battery each time before the charger starts to flash.
after the battery as got enough charge in it it can start to charge.
hope this helps.

I had this problem as well. I found on another web a simple solution. Get a square 9 volt battery. Connect the battery to your casio lithium battery. The easy way to do this was using two sewing neddles. This is really better done with two people. Get the first person to hold the needles on each terminal. Then the other person lowers the lithium battery onto the needles. Please make sure you connect positive to positive and negative to negative. Hold this for about 30 seconds. This will be enough charge for the battery to hold and then the charger will work. This is a tested solution

I tried putting the battery on the charger and then removing it as soon as the red led blinked on. I repeated it 35 times. No luck.
I then tried the square 9 volt battery method described by lancsamb above. I felt the 9 volt get hot so I disconnected it and tried the battery on the charger. Still got the red blinking led. I tried the 9 volt again and left it on about 20 seconds. It got warm again. I then placed the battery on the charger and voila, it is charging. Thanks for your help.

Battery doesn't indicate charging on the DMC-SZ10

It could be one of the USB connectors in the camera is not connected anymore. You need 2 contacts to send over the pictures (data) and 2 contacts to charge the battery. I would not worry about that. Just charge the battery in the external charger. I't won't be worth the cost you have to make to repair this. It is not likely your USB cable is defect, because the same contacts are used for power in the charger. Still you could try another USB cable, because the one you use now, could just work in the charger and just not in the camera.

Battery not charge

the battery may have developed a memory from continually recharging a partially used battery. The battery charges to this point and reads fully charged but when used it shows as flat because the charged portion is the bit that is used and not the whole battery. Replace the battery with a new one and only charge the battery when it shows as flat.

Normally when i charge my cameras battery a red light will turn on to let me know its charging and will stay on until it is fully charged but whn i went to charge my battery yesterday the red light began...

Charge your battery with an external power supply or a car battery charger for like 10 seconds (1 ampere will do the trick) by connecting the + and the - of the battery to the + and - of the power supply.
Now insert the battery in your normal charger. ìf it will still not charge do it again for 10 seconds.

I have been charging my vivitar vivicam for probably over 24 hours and it still does'nt work.

Your problem is likely either the charger or a battery that's too worn out to take a charge. A constant red light on the charger indicates that the battery is charging, and a green light indicates that the charge is complete. If the green light never comes on, that's a good indication that the battery is beyond charging. If you have a voltmeter you can check the charger output and the battery voltage. Unfortunately your camera uses a special battery so there's no way to test the charger with another battery or to test the battery in another use. Replacing the battery, especially if it's more than a year old, is your best bet.

The batterie charger for my Casio Exilim EX-Z77 has a blinking red light instead of a continous red light when i try charging the batterie. also, it doesnt appear to be charging it at all. Left in in for...

The blinking light indicates a charging error. Try connecting a 9 volt battery to your camera battery. Sometimes if the battery has lost all charge, the charger doesn't recognize it properly.

Battery charger flashing red light

Clean contact points of both battery and charger with q-tips dipped in rubbing alcohol. This solved my problem with blinking lights and not charging of the batteries.

Digimax i5 problem charging battery

Hello,
■ Charging LED

Charging LED
Red LED is on = Being charged
Red LED is blinking = Charging error
Green LED is on = Charging is complete

● If the charge indicator blinks as red, it indicates a battery charging error.
- The battery is not properly inserted
- The terminals of battery are dirty or damaged
If the battery is inserted properly and the charge indicator continues to blink, contact the
nearest Samsung Camera Service Center.

If the charging LED doesn't turn to green could mean a signal that the battery is bad or can't charge 100% anymore = too old, needs a new battery. Hope this helps.

Charger red lite flashing. Camera comes on for one second and shuts off

Hello,
Here's a copy from the owners manual:
■ Charging LED
Red LED is on = Being charged
Red LED is blinking = Charging error
Green LED is on = Carging is complete

● If the charge indicator blinks as red, it indicates a battery charging error.
- The battery is not properly inserted
- The terminals of battery are dirty or damaged
If the battery is inserted properly and the charge indicator continues to blink, contact the
nearest Samsung Camera Service Center.

Another charging error is when the batteries are so depleted, they won't charge up to 100% anymore = red light doesn't go out and remains on for too long, means get a new battery.

Battery Charging light doesn't flash and battery doesn't charge

I have the same problem. Worked for 3 years and now the battery charges to green but goes dead immediately. I've changed batteries. Its the camera not the batteries. Works fine plugged in. Obviously the cameras are not charging the batteries. Canon must know but I cannot find a fix and warranty is over. I guess buying the expensive camera of the day isnt always assuring you of quality.
