First year college student

Any suggestions for a laptop for a first year college student? Something of good quality but will not break the bank?? We sent him off with an HP Pavilion 4300 - 6 years old - and it did not last 2 weeks!

If he's interested in a convertible laptop I want to put in a plug for Gateway convertible tablets. I'm on my second one and find them to be reliable, sturdy and work well. The first one I had ran XP and was a little glitchy with the pen/screen interaction. But now I am running Vista and find it to be superior and satisfactory in that regard. The computer offers a lot of power, features and storage for the a much less price than competitors. I recently tried an HP TX1420us thinking that I wanted more....as it has a large drive and oodles of features. But the pen/screen interaction was beyond HORRIBLE. One could not take a half a page of notes on the screen before getting serious writers cramp. I learned that this was the way they were and not a flaw with the one I had. Awful. Plus, it was basically a cheap piece of crap with a screen/lid with way too much flex and an inferior pivot hinge. The Gateway has a nice study pivot hinge. And depending on the model, a magnesium case. Perhaps a 12" screen would suit a student better. Mine is 14" and I would hate to have to lug it very far as it's on the heavy side. My main complaint.

I would consider buying a Dell Inspiron Notebook from the Dell Outlet Store. The Web Address is www.Dell.com/Outlet

Here you can find refurbished machines that carry the same warranty as new ones at a very low price. Occasionally they also have scratch and dent laptops that work perfect and are new at a good discount. Dell also has excellent tecnical support with experts who can assist you with any problem that may come up.

People will have different opinions, but for price, quality, ease of set up and reliability i would suggest an ACER notebook, they are available with good spec, try ebuyer and your local retailers http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/search/?strSearch=acer+notebook&bolShowAll=true&intMfrID=174&bolShowAll=true

How to Apply Student Finance Loan UK?

As a student, you can apply for tuition and maintenance credits to pay the course fee and the cost of living. Depending on where you live in the UK, where you want to study and your personal circumstances, you may be eligible for scholarships and scholarships.

How much does university or college cost?

The maximum tuition fees that university-funded universities and university colleges can charge annually are £ 9,250. The amount they can ask you depends on where you live now and where you would like to study. If you live in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, your country's student finance office may cover some or all of the costs of your tuition fees. You can apply for a tuition fee loan to cover the full cost of your undergraduate course in a publicly -funded institution.
Tuition fee loans go directly to your university or college and not to your bank account. You only start repaying these, along with any maintenance loans you have taken out, once you have completed your studies and started earning above a certain amount.
If you:
·want to study in a privately-funded university
·plan to be a part-time or postgraduate student
·Have received funding for previous undergraduate study you should contact your nation's student finance agency, as different funding rules may apply.

Post master's students

If you are planning to take a postgraduate master's degree and are 59 years or younger, you may be eligible for a loan of up to £ 10,609 to contribute to your cost and cost of living. You only pay back if you earn on the salary threshold, which is currently £ 21,000 per year.

Part-time students

You might be able to receive a tuition fee loan if your course has a 'course intensity' of 25% or more. The level of course intensity depends on how much of your course you complete each year compared to an equivalent full-time course. You have to check the course intensity with your university or college.

Teach your kids about finances with personal checking accounts

Gettting your kids to manage their own bank accounts is a great lesson in finance for them. Most banks offer student checking accounts with little or fees and very low minimum deposit to open, so they can take their hard earned babysitting money or lawn mowing money and put it in a safe place. Using a student account you can teach your kids about how credit and debit cards work while still having some control over their spending. Since almost everything is online they can learn to track their spending and you can check in on them to make sure they're not maxing out their credit cards!

Most of the personal student checking accounts are free until graduation from college or for a set number of years from opening so it is a good idea to check all the facts before opening an account. You can find a comprehensive list of the top student checking accounts here.
