You need to make sure the password you are entering is entered correctly. Check for upper and lower case letters and to check it you should be able to find it on the underside of the router.

SOURCE: Wireless Internet through 2Wire router not working

First of all change your router to WPA rather than WEP. WEP is easily cracked now and is not secure. That might be what your laptop is looking at.

Secondly, update the wireless drivers to the current version from the website.

Make sure your router is broadcasting on 'auto' (802.11a/b/g, and N if supported), It ay be broadcasting only on, say 11g and your laptop doesn't support it. Updating the wireless drivers may also fix this.

I am trying to connect my new wifi ext bt600 with no wps button on my router

Since your router does not have a WPS button, it is likely it uses a 9-digit pin number for WPS. The pin number should be on a sticker on the router or maybe in the router's setup guide.

I had the same problem and i think i remember how to solve it. When you are ready to enter the pin # (the one that has to be 8 digit long0, ignore it and instead click in the bottom part of the window where it say something like 'enter key phrase/password instead' and then it will ask you to enter one. The password is listed in the label on the bottom of the router. It is the long one under 'WPA-PSK." I hope that helps.

Trying to connect to sony blu-ray wireless where

Certain routers will not have a wps button on it...
You can go for the next options in your bluray...
You will have options to enter network key...(this is wireless network password)
Or you can configure using PIN number...(an 8 digit number printed at the bottom of wireless router)

But if u configured using wps or pin number, then the wireless settings on your router will get sync with bluray player... All your other wireless devices like laptops and iphones and gaming system will lose their connectivity to the wireless router...
so it is advisable to type the security password of your router in bluray player...

When you say, "IT is asking for..." exactly what is "it?"
It sounds to me like you have a Linksys wireless interface (possibly USB) on your PC which assumes it is going to connect to a Linksys router, which would have that PIN code on it... but you don't own a Linksys router and therefore the whole PIN code protocol is futile.
Bypass the proprietary PIN code nonsense and enter the WEP or WPA password the installer gave you (if any; it's possible he didn't set any) to connect to your access point from your PC.

I need to get the security pin number for Dynex Router. I have moved and can not fine the package I had the software in.

Are you trying to connect to the wireless network on a VISTA computer ?
sometimes it will ask you for the PIN number on a vista computer . In that case on the same window, at the bottom, you will find the option , I want to enter the key or I want to connect to the network. Click on that option .
After that it will ask you for the wireless password , if your network is secured.
If you are looking PIN for other purpose then the PIN number might be on the back side of the router also. It is 8 digit number.

Router asks for some kind of pin...

I have never heard of such. Sound like your computer is tring to get you to enter the WEP key or Passphase to access the router.
If you don't have a WEP key or Passphase setup on the router then you should just be able to click "ok" or "enter" (with the field blank) and bypass this screen.

Also check your network properties on the computer that is giving you trouble. Open your network connection, right click your wireless connection and click on "properties". Check the tabs and make sure you don't have WEP or secure network highlighted in one of the check boxes.
