My wireless modem was working fine until sunday. Then no internet connection. The light next to the internet is not lit. Wireless is lit, ethernet is lit, power is lit. It just stopped working on the internet. The computer says I am connected to Verizon, but only get error messages when trying to get on internet or check email. I have unhooked everything, turned it all off and then on again (several times). Nothing changes.
Do you think the modem has gone bad? All phones are working, all the doodads that filter the phone lines are the same, no doodad on the line to the modem.
Thanks for any suggestions.

- I was actually able to fix the problem using Verizon's Online help pages (which were already on my computer as I had no internet access). It had a page to reset the Westell versalink modem by entering a 193.16**** (i cannot remember the number). Then I entered my verizon id and password, or use the Westell default id an password. This worked and the light on my internet came back on. I was hooked up again! To find the correct help page, I did a search on my c: drive for versalink. I looked at each page until I found the one that worked.
-   My problem is not with the DSL connection, but with IP service. It keeps dropping IP then reconnecting (sometimes). Very intermittent and no pattern to when it happens. I have talked to the DSL provider (Cincinnati Bell) numerous times and their solution is to lower my speed. The technician has been out several times and checked the line. He said I have a good strong signal and that is NOT the problem. Then it goes into the black hole of being referred to "engineering" and I have not had a fix or response for this problem. It is now going into the fourth month. If there were another provider available, I would try them.

-   My modem Westell 327W was completely reset. What is the initial security info to get into setup? My password no longer works
-   I've had a 327w hooked up to Bellsouth/ATT for about a year now. It failed once before (I didn't look at the lights then) and it began working again later that day, until last week. Now the internet light went out, came on red and worked for a couple of hours later that day and then quit again. It hasn't provided internet since, though the wireless signal is strong. The other lights still light up, just not the internet light. I had purchased a second "back up" 327w when it stopped the first time, and neither modem shows a light for the internet. What does this mean?
I got this modem used from a family member's leftover electronics box. I have no original software or manuals. How do I get the correct software for my model of the 327w, or will any version work? I am unable to access the diagnostics without the software.
I am wondering: if the problem is with the phone line or one of the phone line connections, will I need another modem, or is there something else I can consider?-   DAVacik

First I want you to determine if this is a no sync issue or if this is a no route issue. Know this is the difference between working with Verizon or working with Verizon On-Line. If you have a sync issue which means the DSL light is off or blinking, this would be a Verizon proper issue and is easy to have fixed, however if the DSL light is on and the internet light is off this means that you have not received a PPPoE derived address and thus while you have DSL (Digital Subcriber Line) sync you do not have connectivity to a gateway router to route you to the Internet.
I want you to log into you DSL modem (http://192.168.1.1) then using your login ID and Password the one you configured for the Router not Internet access. And the go to the screen that show your DSL connectivity see if it is up or down *Remember DSL refers to the layer 1 connectivity, and PPPOE refers to the layer 2 connectivity".
If the DSL light is on this meaans that you have to call verizon and say "My DSL light is on, but I am not getting an IP address which means my layer 1 connectivity is working, but my layer 2 PPPOE connectivity did not provide the platform for my layer 3 level to be built". so this now becomes a task of troubleshooting the layer 2 systems (PPPOE server, and IP Address delivery systems, and Redback SMS). Instead of a half hour of "is your modem plugged in".
If your DSL light is off then your layer 1 systems are not working this could be anything from your modem to the ASAM ( ATM Subscriber Access Multiplexer ) system or DSLAM (Digital subscriber Line Access Multiplexer).
In any case if the DSL light is off they just have to figure out why. This can be done at the central office by disconnceting your cable and pair and trying to sync up at the vertical shelf (Ca/Pr) or at the split bank.
If they sync up the problem is outside, if they do not sync up the problem is inside the CO either at the Split bank or the DSL OE block. If the problem is in the CO they will fine and fix it. If the problem is outside, what you can do to expedite things is to take your DSL modem to the NID (Network Interface device) and connect to the phone line that has DSL on it and try to sync up there. If you can sync up the problem is inside of your house, if you can not sync up the problem is outside of your house prior to the NID and thus is verizon's responsibility.
I hope this helps.

i called Verizon and they walked me through it ( I would used this if I could connect!). My question is what CAUSED the problem in the first place? My error, modem error, space/time continuum issues?
this person knows his stuff i work for verizon on the sales and tech help line and have also worked on my own computer dsl problems. thanks for helping everyone understand

Using a 3 to 4 year old Westell 327 w router from Verizon. Mac is very slow loading internet pages with Safari or Firefox. Reset Safari, clear cache... makes no difference. Problem started about 3 weeks ago.
Using my 327W, my PC (and others that have been connected to it) shows that the connection is dropping off. My PC keeps saying that the network cable is unplugged. I have used 3 different ethernet cables with the same results.
i am trying to hook the versalink up to my new computer, and everything i try still doesnt work. im trying to render a wireless connection to the cable internet used in other parts of my home. the modem seems to be functioning fine.
my first time on this so forgive me if i mess up. my friend just
got a new Westell Lynksys 327W because of issues with the old
one. He also got a new computer and is trying to get it set up on
the new modem/router.
His issues is just as Shuttle83 explains here http://www.fixya.com/support/t194855-westell_linksys_327w
The dsl light is on but the internet light is red. He followed
your steps of trying to "log into you DSL modem (http://192.168.1.1)"
but cannot get any connection to the internet at all to log into this
IP.
