GE GSS201EMDCC Fridge and freezer not cooling.

After about an hour the freezer is 26 and the fridge is 64. The Evap Fan isn't running. I cliped the wires, after I unplugged it of course, and wire nutted them together and ran the unit. I measured 12 volts dc between the white and red wire. So I figured it was a bad fan motor. I purchased a new fan and installed it. Unit still not cooling after an hour. I contacted the appliance repair place and he said that it takes a while even though I explained I had the 12 volts dc going to the motor. Now here's my question, there is a yellow and a blue wire also on that motor harness. Could there be something else that the board is looking for to pass another leg of power to that motor?

Because the new one isn't working either. I tested the old one with a nine volt battery. When I hooked the red and the white to the battery I got nothing. But when I twisted the red, blue, yellow together it spun, seemingly slow, but it spun. So that's what brought my question about the other leg from the board. Also I noticed only the bottom 3rd of the evap froze when the compressor ran, so it could be a refrigeration problem too. But it still doesn't explain the problem with the fan.

There is probaly a "clixon" in the unit that senses the temp of the evap. if the evap does not get down to a certin temp the fan will not run. this makes it so you do not have ice crystals all over the freezer. matters on model. also sounds like the fridge might be short on gas.

We have a GE Fridge and the Ice Maker quit freezing.

Yes, the fan from the freezer supplies the cold air to the fridge and then the fridge has its own circulation fan.

How does a side by side domestic fridge work

New side by side layout is fridge side by side upper 2/3, with lower 1/3 pull out freezer
Normally in modern frost free systems only the freezer has the evap, and the fridge thermostat operates a duct, allowing freezer air to blow into the fridge.
The compressor runs until the freezer is satified, the thermostat powering the compressor is only connected to the freezer. If the fridge requires cooling but not the freezer, there's plenty of freezer air to circulate into the fridge after the compressor has turned off. Eventually the cmpressor will start again when the freezer temp gets too high.

On twin evap models, the fridge fan motor cuts out when the fridge gets to it's setpoint, so no air circulation through the fridge evap, though liquid refrigerant flows through it to the freezer evap. Likewise, if the fridge needs cooling but not the freezer, then the compressor will start but the freezer fan motor will not run.

Old school cyclic defrost systems had the thermostat in the fridge, and the freezer kept running until the fridge coil was low enough to make the fridge cabinet down to temp.

My GE model GSH25JFTCBB side by side is not cooling in the fridge side. Freezer seems to be doing fine. What could be wrong

you could have a defrost problem,a bad damper, bad computer board.first thing, open the freezer door,do you hear the fan blowing in there?you should,if not the evap fan motor is bad,if it's blowing touch the back inside wall of the freezer to see if any frost or like snow is on it,from the bottom up in the freezer remove the second bin of food and touch the back inside wall with your hand,if it has frost or snow you have a defrost problem, bad defrost thermostat, heater, sensor or board,if there isn't anything on the wall then you have a bad damper, all that happens is the evaporator coil in the freezer gets cold, then the evaporator fan in the freezer blows the cold air over into the fridge section, you have a damper in your machine that opens and closes when it's cold enough or when it needs to get colder, the door on the damper isn't opening to let the cold air in when it calls for cold air.if you can write back and let me know what you find and hopefully we can get it fixed.

My fridge gets really hot on top and between the fridge and freezer where the door meets

next time send the model number and brand name.usually when this happens is the condenser fan motor isn't working.pull the fridge out, remove the bottom back panel and check the fan to see if it's working,if it is check the condenser coil to see if it's filled with lint and dust,it could just need to be cleaned out but if it's that hot most likely the fan isn't running,if you get this tonight check it now,if the fan isn't running you could blow the compressor, the condenser fan blows and keeps the compressor cool enough so it doesn't overheat by moving the hot air and the heat also esscapes through the condenser coil so if that's clogged with dust the machine will run hotter than normal,if the fan isn't running you can stick any window fan back there and blow it onto the compressor to keep it cool until you fix the condenser fan motor, this way you won't loose any food and if the compressor goes it's new fridge time,to much to repair.hope this helps and good luck with your machine.one more thing,i've found the fans not running and by pushing the blade it runs again,if this happens the fan could run and never have a problem or it could stop an hour later but i would change it out no matter what.if it's a G.E. fridge and the motor isn't running, most likely it will be the computer board,i've found 10 machines doing this and the temp. settings turning on and off or the evap fan motor in the freezer runs slow and then fast and the condenser fan isn't running or running slowly, this is why you have to send the brand name and model number.

G.E. Bottom freezer evap drain keeps freezing up and ice build up stops fan so no cooling in fridge compartment. How can this be solved?

When the freezer section gets cold and reaches its required cooling temperature, after that the frost on freezer section starts defrosting and the cooling fan in the freezer section blows this cool air from freezer to fridge. But if the defrost cycle does not start then over ice will get collected on freezer ventilations and that will block the air passing section from freezer to fridge, so the freezer gets cool but fridge section does not cool. Its defrost problem. Try manual defrost by unplugging the refrigerator from main power outlet for 24 hours then reconnect it and check, if the same problem is noticed again,. If yes then its defrost board problem. The defrost board located in the back of fridge section. You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com or from online sears part site. ------------- Thank you.

Ge profile side by side fridge - fridge not cooling/freezer fine

The problem you are having is what is called defrost. This unit is supposed to do a defrost every 8 hours. If it fails to do so the coils will get a heavy heavy frost on them and the evap fan cannot circulate the cold air thru the freezer and into the fridge. you will need to defrost the coils with a hair dryer. Will probably take about 45 min.'s to a hour. The most common cause for this is the defrost heater located at the bottom of the coils. Replace this and you will be fine to go. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

The ideal temp for the freezer is around 10 degrees F.
Look at the evaporator coils behind the rear cover inside the freezer and check the ice forming on the coils.
