Have a ASUS PTGD1-LA Motherboard. First, when starting up, get black screen. Nothing else. No beeps or indicators. Opened her up and noticed ATX 12v unplugged, so I plugged it in. Restart - nothing. Absolutely nothing. No beep, no fans, no little light, no monitor...nothing. Unplugged ATX 12v and restarted. Now no monitor and cpu AND sys fans inoperable. BTW, psu fan is working great through all, unless I have the ATX 12v connected, in which case it now acts like it's not plugged in at all. Dead. What IS the DEAL???? Help. While I await the perfect answer to fix all my woes, I'm going to clean the cpu fan; although, the interior of this thing is immaculate. But, you never know. My thanks, in anticipation.

The 2 extra wires will most probably be temperature sensors.
If your using the onboard video, then make sure you have memory in the first DIMM slot (it will say DIMM1 beside it)
If that dosn't solve the problem then try these:
Try those for a start and post any progress you make. Also just double check the video cable is correctly attached at both ends to the computer and to the monitor.

long beep - memory bank is not plugged well, or broken
continuous beep - no power, loose card, or short.

The bare essentials to start a computer are PSU, Motherboard, CPU, RAM and Video.
Its possible the PSU arrived DOA. Though I've only had 2 DOA PSU's in the 15 years I've been building custom computers.
Hope this helps.
