Most are abel to be greased, wich helpes. Sounds like its it here not oiling right. When you start up place the nose of the bar near something dry and what to see a oil spaying of the bar . If that's ok,double check you aren't over tittering the chain.

SOURCE: cutting a log with 455 rancher chain locked up

Husqvarna - IPL, 455 Rancher/ 460, 2006-02, Chain Saw (example - may not be your saw):
http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/usa/2006/I06000/I0601076.pdf
See Detail A, pn 503 89 08-02. You can use a Crescent Wrench on one of the ears (left end) to reset it. With the cover positioned with pn 503 89 08-02 in the upper left rotate it CW until it nests, to reset it.

This works quite well:
Reset Chain Brake by Dolfoff
Please follow this link, http://www.fixya.com/support/t3102817-re_install_side_cover_after_chain
Cursor down to “Best Solution”, while there click the “Was this helpful? [Yes]” button
If you do not have a vise a large C clamp to a work surface might work, you may still need a block or two of wood.

You can download the IPL for you saw here:
HusqvarnaUSA.com
http://www.husqvarna.com/us/homeowner/support/download-manuals/
Enter the 3 digit model number (no XPs, Es, just the numbers)
Serial number decode – useful when downloading IPLs and Manuals
06 1500198
06 = year produced – 2006 (single digit before 2000)
15 = week produced - March
00198 = 198th unit Husky produced that week

I will wager you will NEVER again remove the cover with the brake set. Me either! Good Luck. HTH

SOURCE: husqvarna rancher... chain tensioner not working

A Husqvarva IPL for a 455 Rancher 2005-01, follows (may not be your saw):
http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/usa/2005/I05000/I0501036.pdf
See print "A" (clutch cover) pn 537 28 64-01 & pn 503 21 70-10, if missing or loose these may cause your problem. If not an inspection of the parts beneath may disclose the defect.

If the bar is what can be moved pn 537 28 65-01 or 537 28 66-01 may be stripped. After I determined what parts need replacement, I would contact a local Husky Dealer. They may have these parts on hand and if not ordering through them should save you shipping and handling fees.

If your saw was not manufactured between Jan 2005 and Mar 2005 you can find your IPL here:
HusqvarnaUSA.com
http://www.husqvarna.com/us/homeowner/support/download-manuals/
Enter the 3 digit model number (no XPs, Es, just the numbers)
Serial number decode – useful when downloading IPLs and Manuals

06 = year produced – 2006 (single digit before 2000; please contact Husqvarna for single digit clarification http://www.husqvarna.com/us/homeowner/support/customer-support/)
15 = week produced – March
00198 = 198th unit Husky produced that week

SOURCE: turning up the bar oil?

An “OM, 455e Rancher, 455 Rancher, 460 Rancher, 2009-09, EN, FR, ES” Follows (may not be your saw):
http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/HOUS/HOUS2009/HOUS2009_1151382-49.pdf
An excerpt from page 38 of the above OM follows (forcing it may render it inoperative):
Adjustment of the oil pump
Adjustments are made by turning the screw using a screwdriver or combination spanner.
The machine is supplied from the factory with the screw set to position 2.
Turning the screw clockwise will reduce the oil flow and turning the screw anti-clockwise will increase the oil flow.
Recommended settings:
• Bar 13"-15": Position 1 (full CW)
• Bar 15"-18": Position 2 (center)
• Bar 18"-20": Position (full CCW)
These recommendations apply to Husqvarna’s chain oil, for other chain oils increase the oil flow by one step.
WARNING! The engine must be stopped when making adjustments.

SOURCE: Chain is not getting oil. 3 hours on new 455

I saw many issues with the oiler on this model, the oil pump itself never goes wrong, there was a later filter as the original was too fine and would not allow sticky oil through, there was also issues with the oil pipe kinking and not allowing oil through, there was also a mod to increase the oil flow,it meant removing the oil pump shaft and increasing the throw by grinding the back of the pump shaft, if you have cleaned the externall oil ways and the problem persists, then it does lie deeper, you could try to thin the oil out and try again, if no better this will be a shop job. If you feel you could do it yourself, let me know and i will try to go through the mod with you.

Chain tension loosens during use

That is normal after using it. You have to loosen the lug nuts at the bar cover and with the screwdriver end of the tool tighten the screw near the back end of the bar. It is the chain adjustment screw. When tightening it, pull up on the chain with your other gloved hand. Don't over tighten it and tighten the nuts down so the chain will be snug but not too tight.
When sharpening your chain , do not file down the drag links too much. (They do cut better with the drag links filed down just a bit.) But that will also make your chain loosen up more quickly.

I have a new 455 rancher chainsaw husky 20inch bar chain keeps coming off new chain

You may have a bent bar, or you could be putting the chain on a little too loose. Perhaps the chain is not getting lube ?
Possible that the chain tentssioner and or adjustment is loosening up as you are using the unit. Other than that maybe a defective new blade ?

Husqvarna 455 rancher, chain getting too loose to tighten after one days use age. Bar oil topped off with every fill up of gas. Bar cleaned in the groove, etc. New chain. The bar will no longer adjust to...

indicates incorrect length chain in use
the adjustment slots should be about 1/3 when fitted moving close to 1/2 when adjusted
the correct adjustment is when the chain in the center of the bar is lifted up the bottom segments of the chain are still in the bar groove
make sure that the oiler hole is not blocked from saw dust and chips

How do you rePlace the chain on the 455 rancher?

You take the chain cover off of the bar. It is two nuts. Take them off and the cover will come off. Slide the bar toward you and the chain will become slack. You can then slide off the chain from the sprocket. To put a new one on. You will need to turn the chain adjustment back all the way to the left. Then put the chain back over the sprocket, then onto the bar. Put the chain cover back on and tighten the chain back up. Then tighten the two nuts back to tight.

Just bought a new 455 Rancher, within 15 minutes of use the chain fell off the guide. Could not put this chain on guide again. Tried brand new chain and within 15 minutes of use, chain came off of guide...

if you loosen the nuts holding the bar on there is a tension screw on the opposite side from where the nuts are you should see it if you look from the front of the saw by the muffler you need to use it to put the proper tension on the chain if you turn it clock wise it should move the bar out tightning the chain you want a tiny bit of slack in the chain it should not be dogged down tight with the tension screw if you go counterclock wiseit should release tension. once tight tighten screws to hold on bar and spin chain by hand should be able to spin chain if not it is to tight. hope this helps

How do i remove the cover to get to the chain for husqvarna455

It really depends on which model 455 rancher you have. The "455e" models have a lever on the chain cover that you lift and turn counterclockwise in order to remove. The regular 455 models have two nuts that you remove in order to take the chain cover off. There is also a chain tensioner on both. On the 455e model you turn the wheel down to increase tension and on the 455 you turn the screw below the foremost nut to tension. Remember that you want to just snug the chain to the bar. You should be able to rotate the chain around the bar by hand.

What size file to sharpen chain for 55 rancher

It depends on the chain you have installed on the chainsaw. You can look at the numbers stamped on the drive link side of the cutting chain and it should have a 2 digit number that correlates to the size.

The factory chain supplied with the #455 rancher was a .325" pitch 3/8" chain.

Here's a link to the specs for your saw with some useful info
