Unable to activate Windows -- Keyboard will not work

I'm trying to activate Windows after reinstallation. I couldn't get an internet connection and so I tried to do the over the phone activation. The only problem is that when I reach that point, my laptop touchpad stops working, as does my keyboard. So, I can't type in the numbers I'm given. All of the troubleshooting tips say that I most likely need a driver -- which I have the disc for, but I can't get it to run without activating windows first. At least not that I can figure. HELP! Thanks

Re: Unable to activate Windows -- Keyboard will not work

Activation will not interfere with anything to do with driver installation, especially as you have 30 days to activate, it's probably something to do with the driver as windows may have installed a generic driver within XP and is not compatable. If you cant get the disc to run, uninstal the keyboard through device manger and then when it reinstalls at the reboot manulally install the driver if you can pointing it to your cdrom disc. If you are able connect a usb mouse for the installation of the driver, but you should get an internet connection as it simply updates the product number, but its unuasual you need to reactivate if you only reinstalled as you have changed no hardware.

What Operating System you are using on your Intel Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook?
If you had the problem because of installing a new driver, try using the F8 button right before your windows starts and restore the Ultrbook back to "Last Known Good Configuration"

Windows will slowly stop functioning if it was never activated till all you get is the mandatory activation screen. The problem you have besides the the activation is that your network card is not connecting to internet. You no longer can get into Windows to remedy the problem, because of the activation screen. Catch 22!

If this is true, you only option is to wipe and re-install Windows.

Why I get " instead of @ on my keyboard?

Check your Keyboard settings to make sure you are working on a US Keyboard layout. If all settings are correct, you can try to uninstall/reinstall your keyboard.

In Windows, click start, rt. click on computer and click Manage.

Click Device manager and rt click on "Human Interface Devices". Choose "uninstall" and press okay. Once that finishes, click on the "computer name" (your pc's name at the top of the device menu) and click Action>scan for new hardware. When your keyboard is rediscovered, allow your pc to search the internet for drivers and you should be done.

I need Product Key of my PC

Did you have Windows XP Professional on your laptop before you downloaded it from the internet? If not, that's your first problem.

When you reinstall or download a operating system you must use the one that is on the Certificate Of Authentication (COA) Sticker on the bottom of your laptop or inside the battery case. That's your key on it (the series of 5 letters and numbers).

If you use someone else's disk to install or download like you did you must make sure that it is the same operating system as yours. In other words, if your COA says Windows XP Home, then you can't install Windows XP Professional because when it comes time to activate it will fail.

Borrow a operating system disk that is the same as your COA from neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and reinstall windows. When it asks for the key, use the key that is on your COA Sticker then it will activate.

If you have to take it to a computer repair shop they should install the operating system for $60 or less if you have a valid COA Sticker.

If you have any other firewall also turn it off.. After that try connecting.. If the issue is still not fixed then unistall the wireless drivers from the device manager.. Install a fresh copy from the dell website( The problem should be fixed...

Unable to get on the internet from my wireless connection

If you have a whitelist on your wireless router in your home, make sure that you are allowed on the list. What is happening is that you are correctly connecting to your wireless network, but your router is not allowing you to access the internet. The problem lies in your router, hopefully that should help.

Wireless Problems!

The computer looks for the cable because wireless is not working.

If wireless card is usb try removing laptop battery, unplugging power adapter and wifi cards, connect in five minutes and see if it works

If it still does not work, reinstall wireless card drivers.
If you have a disk reinstall them from disk.
If you lost the disk download drivers from the Internet, post model on fixya to get the link.

If the wireless card does not work after reinstalling drivers then it is probably faulty.

Note: if you use laptop internal wireless, usually you need to activate a switch to get it working.
