Problem with connectivity

We have a router and our laptops are showing "connected" with "excellent" signal, but we hare not able to sign on the internet. Any clues what we may be doing wrong.

    When using the install wizard I was not confident that the install was done correctly. How do you know if the router is installed correctly? There is not an icon on the decktop showing and there is nothing showing on the control panel. If it is not installed correctly should you just start the wizard again and go through the whole process again? I am totally lost. 1) I have gone through the installation process several times. 2) I have named my router 3) If you are supposed to connect your laptop to the router through the control panel it will not let me, it says that I am not using a windows program to use the Netgear program to connect. Like I said, I am totally lost.

    I have a DSL connection through a Speedstream 4101 modem. I like to connect my laptop with the Netgear router, I connnected the router to my computer and connected the router to the modem. When I did it I cannot connect to the DSL line.

    How can I do a proper setup?

    I have DSL through AT&T Internet Services. I just purchased a Compaq Notebook laptop PC. I also purchased the NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router. The problem is, I don't know what I'm doing. Please help me to set it up.

    I have a Netgear (WGR614NA) wireless router and from some now I have been having problem connecting to the Internet with it. My lap top has the wireless built in stuff, it detects the wireless signal, and indicates that the wireless signal is strong but when ever I attempt to load my Internet browser it gives me an error message saying that it is unable to load page. Interestingly, I am able to connect to other wireless networks with this identical computer but not my own wireless network at home. Can any one help me resolve this issue?

You need to get into the routers settings and look for DHCP, and enable it so as to give your pc's there automatic ip addresses, also check in the general settings if it's a modem router that you have got a internet connection from your ISP and all the dns and ip addresses are showing. Go to the properties of each network card in network connections in your control panel and click on the TCP/IP line and click properties again and ensure obtain ip address automatically is selected and click ok. Restart all pc's if neccasary and refresh your web browser when trying to get online.

Thanks for the help....actually had to get the system checked....bad router. We're up and running again...Yeah!!

connected to wireless router with excellent signal may not means you are connected to internet. make sure your modem provided by internet service provider has signal! connect your computer to modem directly bypassing router. If you are online that means your internet is functional. Then connect modem to your Linksys router and use your wireless to log on to internet.
Your router wireless signal active and excellent means you are connected to router not necessarily the internet. The modem supplied by your internet service provider with active internet should be connected to you router on WAN port!

Your router's wireless encryption setting (WEP) has been changed.

If WLAN and Wireless cards are enabled, then you may have to unplug your router for 10 seconds to reset it. They tend to build up a static charge. Unplug wireless router for 10 seconds, plug back in and you should be fine in a minute or two with full connectivity

First you need to purchase or aquire a wireless router which can send out a wireless signal. Be sure to bring you laptop to the store to ensure you hare busing a router which emitts te right frequecy.

for example, there are laptops whihc have a 802.11b wiress adapter and thos which have a 802.11n whic only works on on a 802.11 n frequency, so please be sure to check with the sales person.

Also, if you are goin withing 100 fee from the router for just in appartment or upstairs or down stairs you will not need a high end system. You may want a middile of the road option no more tha $75 for the router.

You would simply plug in the wireless router to the ethernet cable. It will come with software which would walk you though instructions on how to enable your wireless net card on you laptop and to detect and secure your wirteless router.

If you're connected to the router with excellent stregth then the problem most likly lies in the routers connection to the internet. Check your DSL, Cable modem and make sure the connection to the "Internet" port on your router is good. Try switching out the Ethernet cable if nessciary.
