on the rca chassis of that seies you must enter the service mode and hook up a chipper checker to make adjustments,a few have tried it without it but weeks later they are still at it call for service and an est,to align it.doing so they can also resrore and save the settings for future use.

Setting convergence using service mode on the tv.

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

Hello The common FL231 fuse problem that these set has can be identified by asking the question DO you have the convergence option under setup in the customer menu. If you do not then there is a 99 percent chance you have this. I have written detail repair instrucitons on this under my profile in the tips and tricks section of fixya. I use union electronics for parts but just google the part and you can find many distribitors of the fuse. should not cost no more than 5 dolars and if you can solder the repair shouldnt take more than an hour to complete. Be carefull and good luck. This repair is on you can do if you have any trouble let me know.

No picture or sound

The most common cause for a bowed picture is the convergence power supply module. The module will fail and sometimes blow the fuse. Average cost of repair would be around $100, if you brought it to a tv shop, more for in home service.

This could be a remote problem, try it while the remote it out of range/no batts if so just replace the remote. Pull the batteries out of the remote - fixed? Then: Check the switches, sometimes people clean the set and fluid drips down corrodes the hidden switches and some components near them. If not that check continuity of the switches Another thought, is if you have compact floresent lamps in the room, these can cause some IR interference that can trigger events on your remote control input. last, does anyone near you has the RCA TV? mybe other remote is effecting your TV...

Screen has red, blue and green colors

It is normal for a rear projection TV or monitor to slowly drift slightly out of convergence as the CRTs age. If any sudden drastic change has happened then there has been a component failure on the convergence board. Usually it's the large ICs and maybe some caps and low wattage resistors as well. Could be any of many things. A professional service person has the equipment and know how to check for bad parts, and usualy also some spare parts lying around to replace and check for change. Most common fix is replacing some of the STK chips, which aren't very expensive, but it could be the convergence board itself, or the CRT fluid. In short, kicking it wont help, playing with the menus either. This is going to cost you... consult a Repair person and get an estimate for the repair. Good luck
