Email problems with a WiFi network using a BT 2wire 2700HG

I have setup 5 PCs on an office wireless network via a BT 2wire 2700HG gateway router (downgrade from a Win Server 2003 server/network) and Emailing send and receive do not work (using Outlook Express) but I know that the email setup is OK because I have the same setup on my laptop and I can send and receive when I am out of the office using a different wireless network AOL)? The Email uses a third party to collect the incoming emails POP3 (name.co.uk) but the sending is still smtp.btconnect.com. Could the problem be the Firewall on the 2wire 2700 or is there some other explanation? Any help would be appreciated! Regards Gerryw01

The solution guided me to get within a wisker of having trouble free emailing.

All I had to do after following Sandrews guidance was to set the email address to name.domain.co.uk and leave the reply address blank and Hey Presto worked like a dream!

    Thanks Sandrew

Because you have a third party email account you will have to go into the email accounts and in options look for my outgoing server requires authentication and tick the box. You may also need autorization from bt as they may not allow the incoming emails. also check that any antivirus programmes arent stopping the outgoing mail and putting them in the outbox.

Cannot get a 2Wire Gateway to recognize linksys wireless print server (wps54gu2). Can set up using lan and fix IP, enter wep password, etc. Once disconnected, gateway doesn't even recognize device.

1. Need to know what OS ( operating system) you are using.
2. Have you check if the settings are on " automatic DHCP and do you have the router
3.Check the firewall settings. This disconnection if not on the "access list" in the firewall settings.
4. Make sure you have the most current firmware updates on the router.
5. See if you can "ping" the wireless router.
6. check the " up grade history" page.

I am using a 2wire wireless router with modem and am trying to hook up 2 pcs to the local area ports. I can't get a connection on the local networks but can on the wireless. I've tried a few different...

start by pinging the gateway. if you get a reply then the connection is good.

next try a nslookup at the command line.

the syntax is nslookup google.com
you should get back an answer like:
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: google.com
Addresses: 74.125.67.100, 74.125.127.100, 74.125.45.100

If not it then it is a DNS problem not a connection problem. Make sure you have the DNS servers setup in your network configuration.

No connection to laptop.

I would imagine that you have the desktop wired to the 2wire router... Does the desktop have a static or dynamic IP? If you want it to be dynamic you will have to setup DHCP on the router to give the laptop an IP address... Otherwise set the IP on the laptop to the same subnet that the desktop and router are on, i.e 192.168.1.0... Make sure that the laptop is has a static (doesnt change) IP or its setup to receive an IP from the router or another DHCP server, if you have a DHCP server on your network... To make the laptop a DHCP client, set the wireless NIC to automatically select an IP and automatically select DNS servers, this can be done thru the control panel>network connections, then select your wireless NIC, right-click on it and select properties, on the first page of the properties menu, highlight TCP/IP then click on the properties button and when that screen appears, select the radio button for automatic selection of IP and DNS... if you will not be using dynamic IP/DHCP, you will manually have to enter the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS server IPs.... Let me know if this helps or if I can clearify something for you! Best of luck!

D-Link DP 311U wireless setup

Had same problem. Got it to work!!
I have DLink DP-311U and 2Wire Gateway router/modem 2701HG-B.

Solution: Connect DP-311U to router via network cable.
Then you can see it either with PS Admin or with browser http://192.168.0.10 should be default IP address of DLink Print Server. Set Connection Mode=Infrastructure, ESS-ID=2WIRExxx (xxx is your number of the router) - this is your network name, and wireless channel=1.
And the most important - change your IP Address to 192.168.1.xxx - xxx=choose a number over 64 if it's not taken already.

On your Gateway page: http://gateway.2wire.net/xslt?PAGE=J46&THISPAGE=A02_POST&NEXTPAGE=J46
Set Network Name=2WIRExxx, WIreless Channel=1, enable SSID Broadcast, Disable wireless network Security.

Once you get those numbers in, check connectivity with above programs with cable connected, or typing new print server IP address in browser. Then disable cable and check again. You should be able to see the box. Then connect print server to printer and make sure your printer settings on computer point to new IP address.
