Reinstall your device drivers for your sound device, if it is a build in sound device for windows, just run your windows etup disk and on the second screen, chooset the option repair.

You will need to buy another licensed copy of windows 8 if you didn't burn the recovery disks while the system was operational.

You might also be able to buy the recovery disks from gateway them-self. Contact gateway customer support for more information. Make sure you have the make and model number for your machine and be SURE they have the correct information or you might get a disk for another system.

Gateway GT5404 Recovery Disk

The recovery disk is model specific and basically garbage. You'd be better off getting an install disc for Windows or another operating system. Many flavors of Linux are available and FREE.

Gateway md2419u needs recovery disk for windows 7

I remember seeing your other post about this same request for help and you mentioned that Gateway wanted $149 to help you out.

Take the computer to a local repair shop if you need the operating system reinstalled. This should not cost more than $60 to install the same version of windows that was on your computer. Just make sure that the Certificate of Authentication (COA) sticker on the bottom of the laptop is legible so that they can know which operating system you had and what the key code (a series of five digits and letters) is.

Will the 2009 recovery disks we had to purchase in 2010 for my son's laptop (lost operating system within first 5 weeks of purchase) work for my gateway w6501

In general, recovery disks are designed for a specific make and model of computer, or a narrow range of computers. This is required by Microsoft and others in order to prevent piracy of the operating system and bundled software.

As a result, recovery discs for one PC will not work in other PCs.

If the Gateway PC is still running, you may be able to create recovery CDs from it. If not, you can order the recovery CDs from Gateway.

1. You didn't specify if you are installing Windows XP or which operating system.
I assume that you want to install Windows XP. I am not sure as to the age of this unit and if it is compatible with the above mentioned OS.
2. If you have a valid key then any Windows XP Operating disk will boot your PC unit provided you have allow the device in the bios to boot from it.
3. You will need to select the CD/dvd device to be enabled for the pc to see the boot disk. Usually selecting F12 or F1 will allow you into the BIOS setup for this.

You will need to ask your friend for the user manual to follow the bios setup procedure. I don't think there is a user manual for this model online anymore.

Gateway sells the cds. If you tell them your model no they will send you a recovery disc (with a tiny fee of course).

Here's their number 866-539-3901

System recovery for Gateway GM5048

No that should have nothing to do with it......

What I can recommend is manually installing the drivers rather then going through the entire recovery process again. All of the drivers that you would need you can find here :
