Question about Car Audio & Video
Hi there, I purchased a Sony CDXM 8800 CD / Radio player for my car this time last year. This was purchased though eBay and the unit was brand new, now out of warranty unfortunately. The headunit hasn't been working properly for approximately the last month. At first it started to 'go' (please excuse the technical terms!) a little strange, by not allowing me to use certain functions such as the up / down volume button or to skip a song forward etc. Now I can only use the remote control to access any of the functions, as none of the buttons on the headunit (when the motorised flip down front is open) work or respond. I could probably get used to this being the only way to use the cd player however the remote control doesn't have an eject function and unfortunately for the last month Justin Timberlake has been stuck in there on repeat, much to my shame, as I'm a hard dance fan! I was wondering, if perhaps you might have heard, if this is a common fault in these CD players or if there is any way to repair them? When the front opens by the remote control, the unit lights up but none of the buttons work, then the light will flicker and go out. It seems, like something that relays the information from the fingerpad to the back of the unit has broken. All graphics on the screen are working when the unit is closed. I hope you can help? With thanks, Karen Ireland
There is a reset button on the area behind the faceplate. You will have to go back in and redo many settings but just hold the tiny button down with a ballpoint pen for 15-30 seconds and it should reset allowing the faceplate buttons to operate.

Sounds like a bad connection with the faceplate and the multi connector that the faceplate mates with when closed. check for dirt and bent pins on both connectors. Luck

power off. open the cd changer unit. look for the motor that, when turning, performs the eject mechanism. now turn this motor by hand in the proper direction until cassette is fully ejected.

There should be a reset button on either the face of the player or under the faceplate if its removable (tiny black button). Otherwise to remove the cd disconnect the unit and then plug it in or remove the memory fuse or battery lead for 5 seconds.

if detach face may not be making good contact try removing wipe connections w/rub alchol and put back on

It might be a Bose system. I usually remove stuck CD's by grasping the edge with a pair of tweezers and pulling slowly, there will be some resistance. Try to reset first by removing the fuse for about 30 seconds and after it powers up again (don't turn it on yet) push the eject button.
