How do i network two or three or more computers trought a ethernet hub? i have one computer set up for dial up and the other two are set to connect to the internet trough the computer with the dial up and the dial up is confugured to be shared...internet explorer tells me that it cannot find the server on the secondary computers....plz help!
Your problem is the maximum speed of dial-up, or about 56K which causes a timeout of your browser, which is why IE can't see the server from your faster ethernet hub to your much slower dialup gateway to the internet.
It's kinda like if I had a great 8 lane superhighway (your two computers connected to your ethernet hub,) and the only traffic available to occupy the highway during rush hour, were the cars on your own single family dwelling residential area block [the feed from your dial up computer] which would work ok for downloads, but be a massive waste of concrete, while if you tried UPLOADING, you would be forcing all the traffic of that 8 lane highway from the commute home to detour to your side street.
If there is a broadband solution available (and there is, even if you are in a rural area, by means of a satellite ISP,) I would strongly recommend your investigation of that option, or DSL or preferably Cable to maximize the speed of your network and to eliminate the inevitable bottleneck.
Feel free to contact [email protected] for your networking advice and OS problems. if I can't solve it I might know a few people who can. I am studying mcse and ccnp.
its a matter of file sharing using a router or switch which inless you get into industry they are the same thing on the usual at frys. also check out system in control panel. explore through it and creat a work group inless you are using more than 10 computers that you are doing this with. and to let you know a hub is the most worthless networking equipment to use because it works at half duplex, that why I recommend a linksys router or switch. inless its both which I recommend more. there is a graphical user interface that I find fairly easy compared to cisco commands. you don't need to be a network expert to really understand it.

use a router or switch and I recommend linksys over cisco equipment
