Scanning barcodes with colored background

Our school printed student ID's with colored backgrounds on the barcodes. They are all light blue, but the cards which also have lighter blue or light yellow frames around the barcodes are difficult to scan. Short of reprinting the ID's are there any setting changes we can make on the scanners that would help. Image Team 3800 Thanks Kathy

We actually discovered that by putting a black frame (we used a permanent marker)around the barcode areas they will scan. This saved us having to reprint all our student id's. Next year the template will have a black frame whenever a colored background is used.

Unfortunately it appears that you do not have sufficient Contrast for your barcodes, this will make scanning them difficult, that with the added issues of wear & fading makes the use of barcoded passcards difficult. it's probably better to use RFID or Magstripe cards for this application

Why when I select color copy on HP Deskjet 3050 J610, it prints with a blue background?

The issue is from the glass on the copier, it would be better if you clean it very well or possible change.

Scanner reads some barcodes (black and white, larger barcodes), but not smaller barcodes that are black w/gold background.

Acutually, some kind of conbinations of bar color and background color will prevent barcode readers from accurate scanning. So I think you should check whether your color combination is feasible first.

Color printout has shaded lines; rather than blue background, it prints blue striped background

It sounds like your blue ink may be running out.
If ink is full then try to remove an ink cartridge and putting it back, then run through the steps of printing the test page. It may be just that the pages are printing unaligned.

How do I reset the ink levels?

Well, theres the problem. Most printers can remember up to three cartridges. That includes color & black. The best way to put it is that each cartridge has a"funger print" that the printer can read, and estimated ink levels can be gaged. There is a way to "reset" the cartridges, but i do not have the document on me. Please email [email protected] and I'll send it today. I'm not saying it will work 100%, as the reset method is geared for the 56/57/58, but who knows right?
