Lowrance 500c touchscreen

The touchscreen has stopped responding to my touch - it boots up ok but will not allow me to control it through the touchscreen

    Touch screen does'nt operate at all.I have not tried to fix the problem until today. please contact me if you know what i can do to resolve this issue

    I too,having a problem of the screen not responding to the touch.. Lowrance wants me to send in for update to the tune of $150.00. I already paid too much for this thing and tell all our RV friends and anyone else who will listen, to think twice before buying Lowrance.

    Touch screen is frozen, and soft reset does not work. Unable to perform hard reset as the touch screen is frozen.

    Support is asking for $149+shipping as it is out of warranty.

    I got a brand new Magellan 4200 for $199

    During a recent trip we booted up the i 500 C. After about 30 minutes it began to shut off without a prompt. After reboot it failed to respond to the touch screen icons. Can some one explain what is causing the problem and what is the solution that would justify its repair.

    I removed it from my truck thinking that the software needed update. Reading the instructions I found that I had the latest software update. Is this a software problem or a hardware problem.

    If this is a hardware problem then I believe that Lowrance should repair it with out cost.

    I was on my job using the 500C when the touch screen stopped functioning properly, it would simply freeze up thus rendering it useless. The function buttons on the side would work, but it would not allow me access to directions, I could not get passed the "Warning from operations while driving Screen." This was such an inconvience as I had 5 other stops which I could not complete. This unit is not quite 2 years old and I paid $599.00 with a $100.00 Rebate, but $499.00 is still too much for this unit to malfuntion in such a short period of time. I have installed the latest update. If any one knows the fix for this problem please post.

    same problem others have described touchscreen will not respond to my touch , i have done the screen calibration about everytime i use it and gotten all the software update and it still freezes right when i need it the most.

    Yep... My touch screen stopped working after 3 years of service. All other functions work, but still a useless boat anchor now. Since Lowrance is not a mainstream GPS player, I guess I'll buy a TomTom or Garmen and go anchor my boat with the Lowrance. - Bob Griffith -

    yes, after now 1 1/2 yrs of ownership, I TOO have lost my touchscreen ability. I am very disappointed...I thought IWAY offered the best quality when shopping around!

    I am having the same problem with my touch screen. I need to wait about 30 minutes for the unit to warm up until the screen will respond. Right now, it is summer in Green Bay, WI where I live- I would imagine this unit will be completely useless in winter. I would ever buy another Lowrance. They should be embarrased to have this product on the market. I am extremely disappointed!

    My 500c went out on us on the way back from TX. Turned it off to go in to eat and when we came back out, the touch screen did not work. Totally unusable all the way home.

    Downloaded the Version 1.8 again and thought it might help to install that again. After the lengthy loading to the 500c and then the reboot of the 500c it still wound up with the same problem.

    It can bring up the screen and I can move the map around from the US, to the Atlantic Ocean, Greenland, Finland, Russia, Alaska, the Canadian north country. A lot of good that is.

    Lowrance only has a replacement program for the 500c which is send yours back and they will send you a 600c. But, how long would that last? And to pay $350 for the 600c. I'm not much of a gambling man so I guess I'll just take it apart and see if I can find anything that perhaps got shifted in the heat.

    I was having the exact same problem and contacted Lowrance to complain, especially after seeing the posts here. They sent me the following process to perform a hard reset and my problem was solved and the unit is working perfectly again. Good Luck!

    To perform a Hard Reset of the unit (will delete waypoints and address book)
    Turn the unit off, press and hold the Speak/Volume button and then press and hold the Power/Light button. Hold both buttons down until the unit powers up and you get the Testing 123 screen. Release the 2 buttons and you will see a button on the screen that says Hard Reset, press it and the unit will warn that this will delete all user data (address book). The unit will shut off, turn it back on and the unit is reset.

    To adjust the screen calibration:
    With the unit on, Press Menu twice select the System Setup button, then select the Screen Setup button. Select the Calibrate Screen button and then follow the directions that are displayed on the screen.

    Touch screen does not work; however when I turn unit iff/on, he first time I touch the screen, I get the "beep" but no reaction. I tried Joes hard reset and got that screen to come up, but again no reaction other than the beep. HELP11111111

    I have all of the above problems as well. With the orientation, and the touchscreen not working until it warms up. I have almost thrown this thing onto the highway many times if it werent for the MP3's and photos I have on it. Tonight I finally bought a #8 Torx and opened this POS. I looks like its a refurb or someone was sleeping on the job when making it. My 3 year old could have soldered the contacts better than they did. I dont want to do a hard reset to try to fix the screen because it works after the unit is hot so it couldnt be a firmware issue. If I could find a new screen I could replace it myself. My iWay500C also has always taken about 5 minutes to aquire sats. Buy a Garmin if you want a GPS.

My iway 500c kinda had the same problem. At first while driving, the screen would go from 3d to always north to always up and be switching screens 3 to 4 times a second. It would finally go back to normal. After about a month of this the touch screen would work intermittently. It finally quit working completely on a trip to Texas. When I got home I called Lowrance and the said they would replace it for $350. I already spent over $600 for it. I took the thing apart and found the grounding screw to the touch screen was really loose. I tightened it and now its working again for now. I am not happy with Lowrance support.

Solution: Go to main menu>screen setup>calibrate screen and recalibrate. Also, can do a hard reset. Info on Lowrance site.

I have the same problem essentially. The only thing I can do is pan left and right in map mode. I can't access any of the buttons that appear onscreen as the touch screens calibration (or something) seems wacked out, the cursor seems to be buried in the bottom edge of the screen as I can just barely see the top of it. The only time the unit functions even remotely normal is if its *VERY* hot. Almost too hot to touch. Anyone have a solution?

I'm having the same problem. Every time I get the box out and get ready to send it in it starts working again. Seems like mine is touchy in the mornings. Once it heats up it starts working. I paid way too much for this to be having problems like this.

Assuming you are interested in the latest Map update, try contacting Panapacific, Although I have not purchased this product, they say they have the iWAY500c and iWAY600c Navteq Map Update Q1-10 v1.7 listed as Part Number: PACCARQ110

Although listed on their website, the product is currently unavailable for purchase online. Contact their customer service department at 1-800-726-2636.

This is a known issue with the 1.8 update. The solution is to reload the POI from the 1.4 update. Lowrance have the file to do that here:

Screen defaults to very dark and the buttons do not respond


Please check out the settings as its mentioned in the user manual provided bellow:

If it does not respond as mentioned in the manual then you need to get ot the dealer for replacement as its a hardware problem and no further troubleshooting can be recomended.

Stopped working altogether

Unfortunately Lowrance is no longer repairing the iWay 500c model due to lack of parts. You may try calling them at (800) 324-1356 and ask if i's repairable. They may offer you an upgrade to the newer iWay 600c for a reasonable price. Well it's cheaper than a new iWay anyway...

Unfortunately there are no parts or repair manuals available outside Lowrance for any of their models.

Touch screen touchiness

Yes! I have an iWay 500C and all of a sudden, it started having serious calibration issues. I try to press a button on it and it thinks I'm pressing something about 2 inches below where I really am. I can't even get to the option to re-calibrate it when it does this, since the recalibration menu option is near the top of the display! I still have to experiment more, but the last time it did this, I think I had success by powering the unit on, waiting for it to finish getting a "fix" on the location (so the processor in it wasn't so busy), and then drawing a few big circles around the display with my finger. After that, it seemed to "snap into calibration" again.

you need to set up profiles for home or it will default to manufacture setting. There is a great dvd that shows you in depth info on your new toy so you can get the most out of it. or if you are like me you will just plug and play
