the freezer half defrosts, water drains down - looks like there could be drain hole right underneath the coils but the water isnt draining into that! (should there be one there?) - then, runs down onto the bottom of freezer, most freezes there, forms an ice sheet, then more defrost cycles occur and water starts running over the ice under the door and onto kitchen floor.
yes, freezes, defrosts, freezes. I saw another guy posted an identical problem yesterday also with a GE side by side.

You say defrosts daily... by that do you mean it freezes, then defrosts, then freezes again... in a cycle? Or do you mean it's just constantly leaking? Either way, I should be able to help, but I need to know more specifics first.

It sounds like your compressor is overheating. When it gets too hot, it shuts down, and the freezer thaws out... then once it cools down enough, it starts up again and refreezes everything.

Check to make sure the area behind and under your refrigerator is clear. You may want to clean under the refrigerator to allow for clear airflow - that's the most common cause of something like this.

It sounds like your defrost drain is clogged. It'll require some close examination to find where the clog is and clear it - this is more like plumbing than refrigerator repair at this point.

I suggest you look at this site. I could reiterate what is there, but I wouldn't be as clear as they are. There is also a video showing how to fix the problem here.

The source of that water is from the automatic defrost cycle in the freezer, the water is supposed to run through a drain in the freezer but that drain is blocked so the water is draining into the refrigerator vents and ultimately to the catch basin instead of draining .

Leaking water periodically under the refrigiater

When a refrigerator leaks water like yours, it is common for the problem to be nothing more than a clogged defrost drain. When the unit defrosts itself, the frost melt water drips into a pan underneath the evaporator in the freezer, and goes through a tube from there to the bottom outside of the unit. Since the water cant go down this drain, it backs up on the freezer floor, then eventually the kitchen floor.

10 yr old GE side by side: freezer is leaking

Your drain is frozen up and so every time unit goes into defrost the water refreezes in the freezer's bottom. You either have to shut fridge off completely and let it dethaw or use hot water and an ice pick to hurry up the process. The drain is located in the very back of freezer. You will have to pull out the bottom drawer to see it. Good luck

Samsung Fridge Freezer leaking water

hi August.
Cause: A blocked defrost drain is one of the most common causes of water leakage. This happens when food particles or other debris clogs up the drain hose, which can lead to ice buildup and, eventually, water leaking out of the freezer and refrigerator.
3 common refrigerator problems you can easily fix yourself

The freezer drain hose will drain the defrost water into a drip pan at the bottom of the freezer. When this pan becomes full, it will leak water onto the floor. This is a regular maintenance task whenever the freezer defrosts. Empty the drip pan during the defrost cycle.
How to Fix Water Leaking From the Bottom of Freezer

Why is my fridge leaking water on the floor? If the refrigerator is leaking water it's possible that the refrigerator has a clogged or freezing defrost drain. If the defrost drain freezes the defrost water will overflow the drain and drip down to the bottom of the compartment, If enough water accumulates in the bottom it can run out onto the floor.

So water leaks out onto floor-Jennair side by side

THERE IS A DRAIN LINE HEATER ON MOST UNITS now days, if yours is an older one what you need to do is make sure that it's level, and that the drain line is cleared so that the water has a place to go when it thaws during the defrost cycle.

you may need to clean the drain tube again. the only other place that water may come from is the ice maker if it is over flowing. this however would be very obvious. use some thing like a length of cloths line cable to "snake" the drain after you defrost it. the fastest way to defrost it is to use hot water and a turkey baister. good luck.
