SOURCE: need to reboot i

This error means that your hard drive isn't functioning correctly. The computer is attempting to load the operating system off your hard drive but the computer can't find the operating system. There are several causes for this problem:

1. The hard drive has crashed.
2. The boot sector and/or operating system has become corrupted.
3. The hard drive has become disconnected from the laptop; this is unlikely but possible.

To determine what has happened follow these instructions:
1. Turn off netbook and remove all usb devices.

2. Turn on netbook and press whatever key enters the boot menu; often it is ESC or F10 - look on the first screen you see when you turn on the computer.

3. Look at the possible devices listed that you can choose from. If the hard drive isn't listed, then your netbook isn't detecting the hard drive likely because it has crashed. At this point you're going to have to take the netbook to a repair shop.

4. If your hard drive is listed, then it's possible that the hard drive is fine but that the boot sector has become corrupted. If you have access to a USB CD-Drive and a Windows installation disk or have a way to create a bootable USB flash drive, then there are some solutions that can be attempted. If you don't have access to these things, then you will have to take the netbook to a repair shop.

If you do have access to a Windows installation disk or can create a bootable USB flash drive, then post back to this solution and I can help you further.

Good luck, please post back to this solution if you have any difficulties, and thanks for using FixYa.

Check in the back side you can see battery inside the laptop. Pull it then reconnect .if still same then make sure your battery is working fine. There should be issue with battery if battery is fine then you need to take it to nearest service center because there is problem inside the laptop like motherboard or circuit related issue. most of time laptop battery create this type of issue..So check the battery. SOURCE: my acer aspire 5551 laptop isn't starting up its

Hi

Check underneath and use a small screwdriver to open the small rectangular panel with the image of a stack of CDs near it. This is where the Hard Drive sits.

Check to see if the Hard Drive is properly fitted properly docked into its socket and screwed down or held down properly so it is immobile during use.

If this is not the problem, tap the Fn + the correct function key to enter the Boot Menu at Start Up and use the keyboard arrows to select the Hard Drive boot option.

Make sure there is no CD or DVD in the Optical Drive.

If none of these is the problem then, regrettably, your hard drive may have failed, so remove it and test it in a hard drive dock or an external 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure.

If it has failed you will obviously need a new hard drive, bootable operating system disc, drivers disc and programs and security software to reinstall everything to the new hard drive.

Unfortunately, any data on the old drive will be lost.

It is very unusual for a Hard Drive to fail suddenly without some prior warning or signs of failing (the only realistic way would probably be through a drop, severe knock, serious mains power surge or mains power cut, incorrect shutdown procedure, or sudden disconnection of the power cable during use).

Back up regularly to an external storage device and do not ignore any warning signs. Also plug all computer equipment to the mains via a Surge Protector/Suppressor to prevent damage from power surges or fluctuations.

I hope this helps

SOURCE: i need to reboot my laptop but i don't know

Reboot essentially means restarting the computer. This is two types
1. Warm Reboot: where you go to start on windows task bar and choose shut down but when prompted choose restart. This way computer shuts down momentarily and restarts!
2. Cold Reboot: By this means you choose to shut down and again when prompted choose shut down! This makes computer off completely until restart by pressing power button.
Booting is computer Lingo for above procedures!

Pull the battery and then put it back and see what that does. My concern is that it maybe too hot. Go to www.almico.com and download the free program called speedfan. Run that program and it will tell you temp of the cpu and the hard drive.

I have an EEE PC Netbook running on Windows XP (not sure what Service pack, maybe 2?). I have the discs that came with it, etc. The issue I have is that the Hard Disk is partitioned into 2 sections. I...

The 2nd partition (D:) may be your Factory Recovery Partition? How large is it? I would do a Cleaning and some Tweaking of the Laptop first. Use these two Freeware programs to help with the cleanup. 1, CCLEANER: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ Run the cleaner, look at the Applications tab to customize your cleaner, Runthe registry cleaner, delete all results, Open the TOOLS section, select the STARTUP section, disable ALL unnecessary startup programs to speedup start and running, Use the UNINSTALLER to remove Any/All unnecessary programs. 2, download freeware MALWAREBYTES: http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/ In the install UNCHECK the TRIAL PRO version, you want the freeware version, Run a FULL scan, delete ALL results, reboot. Run a FULL scan with your up-to-date Anti Virus, delete ALL results. Do ALL your Windows Updates and Laptop Manufacturer's updates. I'm trying to restore my laptop back to factory settings It's windows 7 the cd disk don't recovery disc don't work

Have you tried while in Windows, to use the Start Menu, find Acer on the All Programs list, and locate the recovery utility? I have an Acer laptop - an Aspire - and had to do exactly that. I used the built-in recovery routine on the Acer Laptop and was able to rebuild my laptop to the condition of when it just came out of the box, brand new.It will delete all your installations since you got it, applications and documents and photos, etc., will be gone, but your laptop will function as if brand new. Good luck with it. -a.

I clicked completely restore system to factory defaults, but it does not respond

It's probably wanting you to insert some restore discs into the cd/dvd drive.

Some manufacturers leave it up to you to create the restore discs when you first purchase the system. Some put it on the hard drive for you, which sounds like is not your case. Don't sweat it because most times the restore discs that users have to create don't work.

Have you tried doing a System Restore? Click Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. Select a Restore Point (date and time) before you started having problems. Unlike System Recovery that takes you back to factory defaults and deletes everything, System Restore does not delete your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs (unless the program was installed after the Restore Point you selected).

If System Restore does not work for you, then you can always Reinstall your Operating System.
