Problem transistioning between mulitple Cisco Access points

We have a large wireless application with 16 Access points. With a laptop I can walk through the site and transistion between AP's, but the phones dont migrate to the access points well. We lose communication during the transistion. Is there something I can change in the AP's or on the WIP5000 phone to reduce the communication loss?

Re: Problem transistioning between mulitple Cisco Access...

Hi bab77, With a laptop, when walking around, you don't notice any problem because when a data packet is lost the network send you another one and the user don't feel it. With voice it is more sensitive because, if you loose a voice packet the user notice it right away (the call drops or you here a click or something). When walking around with your phone, your network must be "smart" enough to understand it and "pass" the call to next AP. I use the Meru Networks solution system. In this case there is a box call controller in the network that is responsible for "passing" the call to the next AP without the user even noticing a drop in the call. Hope this help (and sorry for my English) RPL4

How do you hide the displayed number on Cisco Phone?

You will need to modify the template assigned to that particular phone. Depending on the service you are using (CallManager onsite or hosted VoIP, or other options), you may or may not actually have access to make these changes. See also Cisco's guide located at

IP 7920 & Asterisk

I believe I saw somewhere that the 7920 works best with the 4.02 version of firmware... only hitch is you can't get it unless you have a valid Cisco login with access to their voice stuff. You could see if your local partner could get it for you otherwise. Also, I think you need the cradle to upgrade the phone manually - otherwise you need a TFTP server set up and the proper keywords in the cnf.xml file. There is better info on about these sccp phones - god I wish they (Cisco) would release a SIP firmware for these things!
