Yes it should. I would remove all of the contents on card and save them then reformat the card and check to see if the full space is available. If not there is freeware available to restore these things to correct amount. If it cannot be done then the card has an issue and needs to be replaced.
-cd corrupted ( try clean the disc with cleaner. If you don't have it then try using perfume(with alcohol). I'm also have try many time using my BOSS perfume. Is alright.
-dvd player have problem( try clean with cd cleaner )
-disc dvd is empty (or damage). Right click to DVD ROM .Choose properties, and see what capacity for that dvd. If it have zero use and full capacity is not zero, that mean dvd disc that is still zero.

U using DVD+R DVD disc? Not possible the DVD+R DVD disc to be reformat,it only can be burn and written data's into the disc only one time to the DVD+R disc. Are u using DVD+RW DVD this disc can be reformat, but DVD+RW DVD disc doesn't reformat by itself. It can't.The DVD+RW DVD disc data's only can be over written with new data's putting into it.
You are getting drop out of data from the DVDs, depending on the quality of the orinal DVD discs, some times they will deteriorate after few years. Look for any scratches on the lable side of the DVD. On some discs lable side where the reflective coating may not be protected well, if it is damaged it cannot be read.
The simple trick is to put a disc into desktop DVD recorder. If Your DVD will be recognized, then copy all content to another DVD or camera. I've seen it before. Must work.
Sincerely.
I beleive that you may need to reinstall the drive and update the drivers, if youve got XP OS then you will need SP2 updates also. the blank dvds are x16 speed and blank cdr are x52 speed.
the format you are going to write in determines the disk you need the use,DVD blanks are 4,7GB and CDR and 700MB

BlueRay is a new high capacity disk storage media system. It has a much greater capacity than any of the other systems.
The blue laser light is of a much narrower beam width and higher speed computing technology, it is possible to now have a much greater capacity for data speed handling and data capacity.
All the new High Definition movies are coming out on BlueRay disks. To play these disks, a BlueRay player will be necessary.
The technology is moving at a faster rate all the time. In about five years, there is a newer system coming out that will even be ahead of the BlueRay. They are working on a new generation high speed plug-in memory modules at the consumer level. These modules will have their own full function microcontroler built in. The data will be using internal fiber optical pathways instead of metal conductive pathways. These will be much farther ahead than anything we have now.
