How can i find activation product key of windows xp s2?

If your PC originally came with Windows XP - there should be a sticker on the case of the PC. It will be a 'genuine' Microsoft label...for XP.
There is a 5x5 code there for you. this code is very specific to the disc/recovery method you are using.

If you are using a Windows XP disc as an upgrade to the OS that was on your PC originally, the 5x5 code you need is located on the original box of the upgrade, or possibly on the sleeve the disc came in.

If you do not have the OEM sticker on the case of the PC or the genuine label from the box/disc....well, you are kind of out of luck.

If you have a brand-name PC, you may be able to obtain the ORIGINAL recovery discs from the OEM...sometimes for a fee. These original discs are sometimes self-activating - meaning you would not need a 5x5 code.

Disk Crash!

Borrow an operating system disk from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker to reinstall windows. Just borrow the version that your Certificate of Authentication (COA) sticker on the bottom of the laptop says. Also make sure you can read the Product Key Code on the COA. Also get the product key code for the disk you borrow because sometimes during installation or activation it will ask for the Key that is on your sticker, and sometimes it wants the key from the installation disk.

Just make sure you borrow the same version of windows that your COA says is installed on your system otherwise you'll have problems activating it.

Acer system repair disks

Are you using a Repair Disk or a Recovery Disk. It's known to crash with Recovery Disks, but most times a Repair Disk works.

If you were using a Recovery Disk then you've probably already wiped out your operating system, so you might as well just reinstall a fresh copy of windows.

Look at your Certificate of Authentication (COA) sticker that is affixed to the laptop either on the bottom or in the battery case. It will tell you what version of windows you have and the Product Key Code (a series of 5 letters and numbers). Borrow that same version of windows from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and reinstall windows. It has to be the same version as your COA Sticker or you will have problems activating it.

Make sure you get the product key code from the person you borrowed the disk from because sometimes the system will take the Product Key Code that is on your laptop and sometimes it wants the Product Key Code from the installation disk.

My computer crashed and i need to install windows xp home edition but don;t have the disc what can i do

You should have a system recovery disk. If you don't, then you will need a XP Home disk. As long as you have the XP installation code (usually placed on a sticker on the outside of your comptuer), you can use any XP Home disk. It's the product code that is really needed. Go borrow a CD from a friend and use your software code that is on your computer.

this issue can be solved very easily.

what i need to know is:

1) what version of windows was installed on your laptop before you got it formatted?
2)what version of Windows is currently running on your laptop, after you got it formatted?

if the answer is the same to both of these question you should have a sticker on the bottom of your laptop that looks like this:

the product key is your key for windows and be used to activate.

What is the product key of windows XP?

Each key is unique.
It is contained on a sticker that should be attached to your comptuer. Laptops are found on the bottom, and towers usually along the side, but have been found on the bottoms, and tops.

You can find your installed Windows key using many free tools available to you.

I like the one from Piriform called SPECCY.
After you install it you can see your XP Key.

NOTE: Don't install the yahoo toolbar included with Speccy.
Just uncheck the box.

If you are just installing XP from a NEW holographic xp disc then you should have an XP Key Sticker on the package that the disc came in.
You need to remove the sticker and place it on your computer somewhere convenient.

I have acer aspire laptop purchased from dabs feb 2007 hard drive crashed 2 weeks out of warranty, i have put in new hard drive, how much would it cost to puirchase the discs for operating system serial...

If your Aspire laptop has a Microsoft sticker at the bottom with the Product Key, it is not necessary for you to re-purchase CD installer of the Operating System. You could try borrowing from friends their XP Pro CD installers or even an OEM and simply use that. When asked for the CD key, use what is printed in the aforementioned sticker.

As long as the motherboard/entire machine is not replaced, then this would be an acceptable alternative. Should you still wish to purchase an Windows XP Pro SP2 installer CD, it would roughly cost USD 60.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
