My tv keeps going off too but where is the "small panel" on the back?Is it at the bottom under the stand? Do I have to take the stand off to find this switch? This is the dvd model.

- Sorry... It looks like the bottom 5 inches or so on the back of the tv might come off. Is this the panel where the switch is? The pedistal that the tv is attached to would also have to come off, thats why im asking.... I better not tackle it till the husband gets home! Thats the only smaller panel that I can find.

- Well in your forum or whatever.... where people write about their problems and fixes someone says there is a switch under the small panel in the back of the tv. So Im wondering where this small panel is or if it is even on this style of tv.
There is an On/Off switch next to the Power cable where it goes into the TV, it looks like the switches you find on the back of computers on the power supply's, it just cuts power to the TV, if its unplugged, you have done the same thing as using the switch. I still don't know what your working on I don't have access to any discussions you may have had this was a new thread here at fix ya. Most on/off issues come from the power pack having bad capacitors on it. It is a common problem.
The switch you were talking about is not on every Akai only some of them have a power switch on the back panel, People in the forums are not what I would call "experts" many of them are just regular people who tried something and it worked. The issue with your TV is not a simple on / off switch, it is related to bad capacitors on the power pack and the more you use it with bad capacitors the more damage will occure to the video processing board.

How much will is cost to get this fixed? The problem seems to be with the power supply. There might be bad or burnt components such capacitors or rectifiers or fuse. Most of the times there are swollen caps which need replacement. The bad components are a result of heat or cold solders etc. The part no, that might be replaced is MLT166A.
