Disk ps2 laser or disk

I am familiar with 2 theories as to why this happens.

1) PS2 drives are mechanically sloppy and are very difficult to zero in. There is actually a way to adjust them and therefore allow them to work out of alignment. Symptoms of a bad alignment= ps1 disks will play but not ps2 disks, etc.

2) The laser is low end. Supposedly Sony used a cheap laser to reduce costs. Whether or not this theory is accurate, I don't know.


If the primary function of your console is functional, that is if it plays ps2 disks, I personally would live with the quirks.

Try cleaning the laser with a DRY q-tip in a circular motion. Just be gentle ;)

If that doesn't work then the laser needs to be replaced :(

swich back and forth between the ps2 game and ps3 game or just keep putting in the ps3 game until it reads it. your laser is probally going.

That disc must have a scratch or the platter is deterated or its dirty. You might want to also buy a cleaning kit for your ps2 and clean the opti laser and get a disk cleaner for your games. Thanks

hi it sounds like you need to replace the laser ? like most things they hate to be droped ? but try this first push the laser back gently with a cotton bud and see if it works if not then laser needs replacing ?

Did you remove the anti static solder blob (point) on your new laser with a soldering iron and solder wick prior to installing it? The symptons your explaining indicate that point is still intact, If so you will need to carefully remove it first then reinstall the laser and try again.

First of all the new laser lens will not allow your Slim to read NTSC UC games if you have a PAL european Console.

There is no reason the New laser should have not read the disc unless it Came to you damaged. It sounds like you know how to replace a laser.

Does it power at all? Lights come on or not?

THIS IS DEFFINETLY A FAULTY LASER REPLACE WITH A NEW LASER AND PS2 WILL WORK FINE
